Kifaru G2 Zulu cold weather loadout

Pretty cool LMT. I really like my Gen1 Zulu...a very capable pack. Just interested why you're packing the RIBZ and not wearing it? I wears well with a pack on and if it's cold weather, it adds a little insulation plus the ability to unzip for "breathing" when you heat up.

Good set up,

Very interesting set-up, thanks for the pics...BTW, what kind of pad is that, it seems thicker than most I've seen?

That pack is flippin sweet. May I ask how much something like that goes for? What's the capacity?

My pet peeves on all my packs tactical or not is that they need to find some way to secure all those straps.

Some close up pics of that Fiddleback would be nice, that looks pretty sweet.

I roll my straps up and secure the roll with a ranger band (rubber band made out of inner tube)

nice write-up! i have a zxr and other pouches on order. it's been almost 2 months and the wait is killing me. i think that's their sales tactic - make you wait so you end up adding even more stuff to your order :D

52.4 liters (but as his post shows, it can take more than that). the pack itself is $347 + $39 for the waist belt. there's usually a 6-8 week wait on these since they're built to order and semi-custom (they ask you for your height, weight, waist size, inseam).

itw web dominators takes care of that.

I have a G1 Zulu and it's a terrific pack. Got it for a steal when the Gen2 came out and the guy was dumping it for the latest and greatest. Also in Foliage green like yours.

Have to say I love its expandability. It's small enough compressed down to make a summer bag, and expanded out for a 3-season, or if you want to go out for a long time or in very cold temps, add a large pod to the bottom and long pockets or even GI Sustainment pouches (which fit perfectly on the sides). The slip pockets are great for oversized objects as you found out. I like to slide a 3/4 axe in one.

I second the recommendations on wearing the RIBZ while packing -- counterweight in front will help your back even more, and on the ITW Web Dominators (BTW my Zulu used an entire pack of 10 of them).

Looks good. I also own 4 Kifaru packs, 3 foliage and the one KU, well 6 but 2 of them I count as pockets (E&E and Koala). The zulu is a great pack, and one of the first of the military line up. However a suggestion. On the top, you have the overstrap?? the strap that cross across the opening and helps compress it. Well after compressing it, take the tail and wrap it around the pad and secure it with a slick clip or smiilar, that way as your hiking, you have 0 chance of the pad ever slipping to the rear and working its way down the back of the bag and possibly falling out. Ive been there before with my ZXR and ridgerest, now with the XTL its not even needed since the rain flap really secures the pad in, but it did do it with the STD lid.

I do intend on wearing them and just used them in the Zulu for the pictures. My food will be in it's place when I head out.

It's made by ALPS and although it's not spongy soft and is bulky, it only weighs 21 ounces.

Web Dominators work great. You'll still have some slack but you can almost get each strap down to just a couple inches long after you set them up.

The Fiddleback is the 14" Machete. Head to the Fiddleback section here on BF and there are a bunch of threads on them. The Knife is a Gossman Tusker and he is also has a forum here.

Thanks for the tip!

Or you can get a pair of cargo straps and lash the pad to the bottom.

Also an option!
