Just a quick post since I just got home from the UPS hold for pickup area, but I promise to do a more complete review this weekend. So my Kifaru KU package has been delivered, inside was a KU3700, I figured it would be a great 3 season multi day pack, REALLY happy I went with this size. Not to big, not too small, just perfect for my anticipated loadout. I did pick up a pair of long pocket, M pods (both of which are my favorite external pockets), a water bottle holder, gun bearer, belt pocket, and a one each size of the 3 string stuff sacks.
Again please bear with me, I was working at trying to get a 5 year old to sleep who was almost as excited as I was at a new package. Even she thought the pack was way light when I asked her to hold it for a second, she threw it over her shoulder and made the biggest smile, too bad the camera was not ready or I would have grabbed that shot. Afterwards she was playing hide from the camera and not wanting to play along. Sad.
Anyways, most here are aware of the Kifaru KU lineup, this 3700 cuin pack is speced at 2lb 9 oz. IE nothing really. The material is made by doubling up the shelter fabric. Patrick and several others tested it and it was finally set for release. They also made the Koala, E&E, various pockets, grab it, and other popular items in the lineup. The outside is the brown material, inside is white to help see your stuff I guess, yes it is still plenty thin, but Patrick said it holds up to a bit, even a fellow BF member Woods walker tested it out and was satisfied, Im sure I will be as well.
Anyways, with this pack, the Kifaru 20* slick sleeping bag, Kifaru Supertarp and 12 MSR stakes, and a Ridgerest pad, I am looking at about 7.5 lbs for the core items. Nice concidering my ZXR weighs that empty, plus Im going from a Wiggys bag to the Kifaru which is half the weight! On to photos.
The gear that came
The pack
Filled with a pillow and 5 fleece blankets, notice you can see the color of the blankets inside.
Notice, padding, stays, adjustment which means comfort while still being UL, what a concept, I hate hearing about... oh just use your sleeping pad to help take the stress off your body from the pack. WTF, really.
Next up is the M pod, these are good for boots, sleeping bags, cold/ wet weather gear or the like. I stuffed it with my daughter decorative bed pillow since it was close by, yes you can see the pattern in the pillow again think thin material, but the test has been given and passed and Im sure Ill be dishing it out to these as well. FYI this pillow is a little bit bigger than my 0 slick bag. I mounted it to the lid.
Here is the attachment method, Its easy to operate and still retains well with nothing attached, I think I like this method more than the dock n lock SRBs. I have lost 2 or so pieces in the field and being Folaige in color, you are not finding them easily. Luckily I keep a few in the spare parts bag and a dozen in the repair bin in the garage.
Here is a long pocket stuffed with 2 towels, and it will hold more, but gives you an idea.
On to the 3 string stuff sacks. I already praise the Kifaru stuff sacks for the sleeping bags/ shelters. Well these are smaller for garments, tarps, and the like. Here is my Kifaru packlock pants (with armor) in the small sack, taller but just as thin as a nalgeen. Nice! As are the pants, so be it my girlfriend hating them, she says they look like a sleeping bag go figure, they are, but she also hates my Patagonia R4 fleece since it looks like a fuzzy xmas tree??? I like em both, what do they know about fashion Ill keep my little self warm (by myself if I tell her that!)
Last is the water bottle pouch this is going to get some use to. I thought the bottle was secured inside the pouch, not really. The opening is thicker material that does not fold under and stays open so you can guide you bottle in (smart idea Partick), and the bungee doubles up around the bottle, the top is just below the lid and its held tight. But its looking like a learning curve to insert when hiking. Ill try it out this weekend.
Anyways, just a quick teaser as to what will come this weekend. Snow/ rain is anticipated and she already planned out most the weekend, but Ill get you guys some more shots. Thanks for looking and for the space!
