Hey guys, was just wondering for all you guys that have a KDSH, with the spike end are you able to break a lock effectively? And is it something that you would want to keep doing over and over without fear of breaking the Kill Devil? I know its a Busse/Rat so its quality shouldn't be in question, & I have seen the video where the guy goes through a car with one, but I have never seen anything on one being able to break a lock or chain link? anybody out there have experience with this? I have a badass new from blade 2015 Kill Devil sniper hawk in urban Digital Camo, and was thinking about buying an RMJ active shooter to maybe replace my Jenny Wren, and Kill Devil but can't justify it if my kill devil already does that job Plus has the prybar end at the bottom? And I use my Jenny out in the woods. But figured the active shooter hawk might fill both roles other than the pry bar. thanks for any input!

Don't have mine yet, so can't say. That active shooter might be a must-have for me at some point, if I can cough up the scratch for it. Good question, though. Looking forward to the responses here.

Are you asking about chopping through hardened lock steel, or prying it open? If the steel hardened harder than the blade it might not work out so well for chopping, I haven't tried that yet as I have seen what happens to boltcutter blades with some of the hardest locks and don't see the need to do that to $$$+ knives/hawks. A chain link that is not hardened should be fine though presuming of course that these locks and chains are your property to destroy?

Yeah just typical locks, just wanted to know if I ever needed to, could it be done by prying with the KDSH? Not for malicious intent

Ok, you've piqued my curiosity. I have a lock sans key on a chain that came attached to a livestock gate I scored on craigslist that needs removal. I could try mine on that to see what my kdsh does prying it open when I next have some free time and it crosses my mind.

A few weeks ago I busted a chain that held a gate up using the spike and reefing on the handle. Works just fine. The pry end on the handle works wonders for opening up metal and wood as well.

I've got a few posts here showing the devil ripping through steel.

While testing these I managed to puncher a few holes in the bumper of an old pickup truck with no damage to the spike.

A couple weeks ago, I chopped a big hole into a couple old 35# propane tanks that needed to go in the trash with the spike on mine (cylinders need to be obviously empty and unusable before the trash company will take them). The edge was slightly duller than when I started, but no damage short of a little more coating loss than what it already had. Sorry, no pics.

I would certainly think that you could pretty easily chop up a padlock body without damaging a KDSH. A hardened shackle, mabe, maybe not.

No pics of it but I used the spike end to "break into" my garage when the locking mechanism bent in the wrong position. I basically maneuvered the pry bar end between the door frame and the metal door itself to pull it open enough to breach. While the door was not extremely heavy duty, the flat pry bar and spike of the KDSH really worked well as a breaching tool. I have no doubts of it's capability to smash locks, door hinges etc. to enter a structure, if one ever needed such a capability.

the normal way to break the lock is to put the spike through the lock shackle and rotate the hawk around the lock until the shackle pops out.

Much less damage/stress on hawk that way, and probably a sight safer than wailing away at a lock.

There are video's showing how.
