I was looking at the new zilla and don't understand what the difference will be between machine ran handles and hand-shaped handles. Do the hand shaped have less hotspots??

The top pic is hand-shaped i am guessing? What would be the pros/cons of ordering the machine shaped or hand shaped?

Yup, hand shaped. Pros for hand shaped when chopping (that I've found), is that the blade moves easier in the hand (I like the slide feeling when chopping), and hot spots are greatly reduced.

If the machine cut scales are not as thick as hand-shaped, then you may not be able to sand them down to preference.

Thanks for the Link, so the machined are a little beefier and the contours will make it slip less, but with more hotspots, tough call, this looks like a serious brush clearer, might want the machined handle if you are swinging hard, more blisters though.

My FBMLE scales are hand shaped. Comfy in the hand when compared to standard LE handles.

Makes a big difference in extended use. I ordered the quilted, simply because I like the feel of the quilted handles. Honestly, I have sand paper, and can knock any hot spots down. I am already planning on nailing that top corner off (right up by the lanyard hole is a sharp looking "tail" that will probably be the first thing to go).
