Killa Zilla Carry Options??

What's the best way to carry your Killa Zilla? I may have one on its way to me soon. Looking for carry options. And sheaths? Will be using this in a tropical climate, in Africa for open carry/self defense/EDC/food prep. It's hot as hell over there so will be wearing tees and shorts most of the time. And I don't care if I carry it in the open, but there is definitely no discreet way to carry a beast like this I'm sure. Wondering if there is a possible way not to look like a maniac while carrying this. Ready to chop anything or anyone that looks at me funny

AZTim had one in Kydex on the back of his belt at this summer's Blade Show. It actually looked small, unintrusive, and comfortable. I can't get it right now but there's a thread somewhere here about carrying knives at the show.

Here's what I do -

On webbing I carry it on a rear cross draw. I got Jeff ( Rainwalker ) to make me a special sheath. Made of two parts ... a leather straight insert sheath with no press studs to impede a draw ... this I use on the cross draw ... then for the second form of carry ...

On my Bergan I have a kydex sheath which can take the leather sheath as an insert. The kydex was designed to have "slots" which the compression straps for the Bergan can thread through so it can be carried on the outside for ease of access. This is handy if taking off my webbing and putting it in the Bergan so I can use the hip belt on the Bergan to carry the weight better. Useful on a long "tab".

In Civvi use, using either a 40 Litre day/weekend pack or a full 80L expedition pack I use the leather sheath inside the pack for unobtrusive carry. This probably is the most comfortable form of carry for civvi use.

I am working on a proper shoulder holster rig for the Zilla. Designed similar to the "lawman" holsters for the large S&W N frame revolvers. Busy doing the cardboard "cut outs" for the leather "pattern cutting". One thing that is true IMO ... the knife needs some form of shoulder support ... it is a bit heavy for just belt carry ... but with a wide belt it can be done albeit you have to keep hitching your pants up ...

If she's not just in my bag, I have two preferred ways, over the shoulder baldric rig

And I recently started carrying like this, through the top x loop, the belt is a super thick heavy duty one, hardly notice it on there honestly

Yes I have seen the pic, I think I'm gonna go that route for street carry. People walk around with machetes in their hands all over the dang place, it's normal. I think the back carry would be comfortable without pulling my pants down.

I agree with you Peter I was thinking a back pack to keep it in, in case. Maybe this this a great thing. Now what back pack I dunno. Got some maxpedition ones, gonna have to get a black one, the acu digi camo one always gets checked and a hard time at airport security abroad and in the middle east for me.

I always enjoy your KZ pics jroden, thank you. I may go that route someday, just don't have the time right now to wait for a chuddy, my fave leather sheaths... Wish they did a LB version of the Zilla with a slightly thinner blade but kept the size the same, maybe make the grip a bit more comfy.

I don't have any pics of the KZ yet but I carry it in the same way. The strap is from Gander mt. I have tried hoops and loops and rings of all sorts but para cord works best for me to attach to the sheath.
Over the shoulder you can keep it under your arm and keep it somewhat concealed. On your back with the strap across the chest for the long haul.
Both ways its right there and easy to remove and replace from the sheath.

Thanks! I'd like to see a LB version myself, with a 3/16 blade. I hear you on the wait, although from chuddy the wait wasn't to bad ( I think it was 2 months when I got mine) I'll have a kydex rig soon from Rainwalker ( wanted the option)

Oh yeah, chucks wait isn't bad at all, I'm just gonna be needing it in the next few weeks. FTR- great shoulder rig. I hope I can get my sniper hawk kill devil soon that may also be a great thing to carry, might make a necker out of it, HEHE.

Here's what i did with one of my kukris. It's not a busse, but the size and shape are very similar and it would work just as well on yours.

it does not move until you pull it. Running, jumping, etc will not make it fall out

I might have to wear that under my tee shirt, with just the handle sticking out. Thanks for all the pics guys it's really helping me!

it's easily concealable under a jacket (without the cord attached)

My setup is really crude. It's just a leather strap with bolts holding it to the sheath. With a little work it would be excellent

I don't see any mosaic pins in that Talon hole!

Not sure when you are going to Africa Trident ... but for a 40L daysack/knife carry sack I heartily recommend the Berghaus "Airflow" system ... especially for hot countries ... the system keeps the pack off your back to enable as much air to circulate as possible ... otherwise you have T Shirts that are ringing wet when you take the sack off ... and the sack soon starts to smell a bit too ...

For Africa I also suggest using something like this too ...

PDLWAIST_br.jpg

You can wear it on it's own with shorts providing you are happy to wash the outer cover a bit ... the waistcoat allows air to circulate in the hottest climate ... and it comes with level IIIA kevlar which inserts between the outer and lining ...

I leave mine unbuttoned sometimes to let my body cool and should'nt for max effectiveness but if I did'nt it would'nt be worn and nor would any other type of vest ... but I do button it when I feel the situation warrants ... I guess it depends on where you go and what you are doing ... it easily slips into the day sack too for times when it is'nt required ...

You mention "maxpedition" ... they do a very handy "pouch" which can be threaded onto any type of belt ... mine is similar but is made by Snugpak ... I carry a water filter in mine and my titanium cup at all times ... plus it is a useful place to "carry" too ... I keep the pistol at the back behind the seperation liner ...

This can manage any type of pistol ... often simply bought over there if need be ... and the belt can then be used to carry the Zilla if necessary ... I also tend to carry a set of "suspenders" in the pouch incase I need to do this and attach them to the belt for extra support ... I use wide elastic ones with aggressive clips ...

That's a nice set up you got there Peter! This bladerunner.tv looks very interesting for low profile light armor protection, very nice equipment. Yeah I think my maxpedition falcon ii might have to do it, single shoulder. I'm gonna mostly be in urban areas, if you could even call it that. Dang it wish I didn't get acu digital, black or tan would have been more low key, may have to get another now.
