I took my two choppers out to play! Not intending for it to be a competition, just some playtime in the woods. But as boys will be boys, they had to show off, just to see who is top dog. We did some real chopping, and here are some pics:

Notice how the KZII looks a lot longer the the NMFBM in one picture, but not in the other? Just an optical illusion. The KZ II is one inch longer than the NMFBM.

They both measure .280" thick. I intend to weigh both of them on the accurate scales at work when I can, and will report it here.

I wore gloves during the chopping session, just to even things out a little. The handle slabs on the KZ are a lot slicker then the NMFBM. Also, I do not know if anyone else has this problem, but the middle rivet hole seems to really annoy the middle finger on my chopping hand.
I just run a cord through it to solve that problem.

All of the cuts were clean and smooth. They both love to chop, but the KZII had a little edge, when we were just chopping.

The KZII did bite just a little deeper, and tended to stay in the wood, with less effort. When limbing the down trees, I started to be able to get a little extra snap with the KZII, to the blade, thanks to the great handle shape. The NMFBM took the honors when I was sharpening stakes and pointing spears! It was also much better at taking off bark, and notching. The KZII was very awkward when doing these tasks, but I have a lot more chopping hours with my NMFBM LE, so that may change with time. These were all the pics I could get before the batteries in the camera went south, but I am sure this rivalry will continue.
Thanks for looking.

Cool pics, I like that each knife excels in its own way, but both are great choppers all around. I'll bet that nmfbm will be a little easier to resharpen

Great pics. I have convexed the edge on my CG kzII, but have really not done much chopping with it yet. I may still need to take some shoukder off the edge yet. It is atill a bit thick out toward the point.
