Stop the madness.

2 Weeks ago I stripped my NMSFNO and FBM. Now I am MODDING my KZ2.... What is going on here!!!

I think it turned out good. I have a lot of polishing on the blade left, and some convexing if possible. But I am so glad that I manned up and did this. I have been thinking about it since PETERPHWS did this a while ago. I just now grew a pair and tried it myself. It is a little scary taking a very expensive piece of INFI and getting out the old grinder and letting sparks fly. The grinding only took about 20 minutes and the stripping about 30. Can't beat an hours worth of work for this. Hope y'all enjoy.
P.S. Any Suggestions on sharpening or re-profileing the blade would be appreciated. I do use the mouse pad trick, but I don't think that is gonna work this time

Convexing that beast by hand will take you some serious elbow grease.

I did some of my KZ convex by hand, then finally said piss it, and hit it with my 1x30 belt sander the edge is not too thick for most of the length, then you it that last couple of inches and it is really a lot of meat. The Tip on the KZII is a lot like the FFBM.

I did my FBMLE (used to be mine) by hand, and it was really a lot of work, but the KZII was a whole different level of meat.

I stripped and spent a good 10 hour day working on my KZII before I gave up on reprofiling it by hand. It's seen the beltsander since, and the amount of metal that came off would have taken me a month of Saturday's to do by hand.

Nice job JD ... :thumbup::cool:

When I used my belt sander to fully convex the KZII and to thin the TTKZ I use a sharpie to draw out lines across the blade to ensure I take off metal in a uniform way .... I also colour the edge so that I can see when the zero convex pinnacle is reached ....

My 1x30 belt sander has lose tension so I double up my belts by using two to increase the rigidity .... then you don't need to worry about pressing the whole of the side into the belt to enable a convex curve to develop .... I stuck with using a new belt alternating each side and by the time it was hitting zero convex the belt was sufficiently worn to enable the edge to be done with the same belt ... I think I started out using a 220 grit and it was very smooth by the end ...

Once you have done the re-profile all that is needed is to strop the edge using a leather paddle and compound .... that tops it up .... if you ding the edge use the belt again ...

Getting the hang of the hand movement required with the paddle is not too bad ... I use some paracord and firmly strap the paddle to my thigh so I have both hands free to manouvre the blade ....

Hope this helps and when using the KZII after a zero convex it is pretty amazing ..... let us know how you get on ....

I have a narrow strop bat that helps with the curved area on the blade.

I still need to strip mine, now that the convex is where I want it.

I still need to fix that little tail on the handle scales that is a bit sharp.

Looks great man!!!!
I certainly prefer the mod to the regular handle shape.
Such an awesome khukuri!!

I am surprised such a drastic Chop and Drop did not get you more comments than this. People must be distracted looking at their sweet CABS!!!!!!

Or, maybe I am partial because I have some blood sweat and tears into convexing mine.

That and I think it's a really reasonable mod that may not seem like it changes much, kind of like grinding the exposed pommel off of something like the boss street. But in this case, that spine side pommel flare is the only hot spot on the handle so it's reasonable to make it less flared (or remove it). Mine is still in the shop getting it done, but from everything I could see and have experienced in the past (having done the exact same mod on khukuries) it will add a lot of comfort when chopping in a slid back grip.

unless you meant the convexing. If you do that by hand, I'll definitely throw in some props for it. That is a lot of metal to remove by without something like an edgepro o_o
