I was playing with an RMJ hawk last night, and really liked the tanto-esque profile of the spike. It has far more penetration potential than the square blunt end of the KD hawk. So, I decided to copy it, and regrind the spike on my KD to sort of match it.

It still needs a bit of cleaning up with finer belts because I just used a worn 24 gr ceramic belt to get here. I'll square the grinds up a bit with the platen rather than the slack belt I used last night as well. But the proof of concept works. You can see a light test swing into the 10ga mild steel behind it, and it penetrates VERY well now with no blunting or damage at all to the spike. After I re wrap my handle, I'm going to see if I can get it through in one good swing.

What do you guys think?

Nice regrind! Hey do you think that the KDSH is thick enough to break a Master Lock? You know the videos where RMJ puts the spike through the lock hole and twists? I would love to know if the KDSH could do that...

Thank you, RAD.

If I can find an old lock I'll give it a shot, Matt.

I'll be doing that once I find the money for a kdsh. Thanks for adding to the "needs" list. I unroll the paper its written on and its like toilet paper rolling down a flight of stairs while holding onto the free end.

I think that's awesome and can't wait to see how that spike performs!

I tried the lock break today. Passed with flying colors.

The first attempt broke the crappy chain I used, and left a fully functional lock. Bring on the transport chain!

Success!!! It was actually so easy, I tried again with a Master brand lock.

Result: Killdevil 3, locks and chains 0. Can't complain about that.

Tyrade83 thank you so much for the info and pictures...that is a breaching tool!

Penetration tests are next, I just need to find something between beer can and 10ga sheet steel to punch the spike through.

That is simply AMAZING!!!
These little hawks are just incredibly tough!!! ---- :D

Thanks for the pix and the animated .gif Tyrade & stjones!
