Killed my powerlock. And my car....

Managed to break my Powerlock X-mas eve at work. Snapped off the end of the pliers. Actually it was a co-worker. Trying to pry out a stripped bolt lol. Obviously this is a bit beyond the scope of what the tool was meant to do. While annoying that it broke, I gotta say it took some good force to do it. And the bolt almost lost. We wound up breaking the bolt off with a pipe wrench. We were all to lazy to find a hacksaw. My LM Wave probably would have broken with about 1/2 the force. That Powerlock held it's own pretty well. Now I need to decide what to replace it with. Wait for the PowerAssist? The Revamped Powerlock? Or a LM Charge, which feature-wise I like the best? Hmmm, decisions. Either way it has to wait. Leaving work the same day I snapped an axle on my Grand Prix. Bad day. Me-2, Powerlock-0, Grand Prix GTP-0 LOL.

Actually I just decided on a Charge ALX. Can be had for a decent price and I just love the features. Gonna miss the one-handed opening and compound leverage (God I love those gears) but I think it'll suit me better overall. Just can't use it so hard. Honestly I've never used any multi-tool as hard as I did that SOG. That poor thing was just in the wrong place at the wrong time I guess. In a couple months I used it harder than my Wave in a couple years. Oh well. It was a great tool, and man did it take the abuse well. Hopefully I never wind up needing to use the Charge that hard because I doubt it would hold up as well. Now as for that axle.....

send your tool in and we will replace the plierhead for you. Just send it to the warranty department and we will take care of the rest. For info on warranty check this link.

Yeah for some reason it didn't really even cross my mind. Come to think of it I could probably send in my Wave since all the diamond coating has gotten worn off the file. So then I'd have 2 perfectly good multitools making the Charge I just ordered kinda redundant. But hey, any excuse to buy a new toy right? LOL.

even if you didn't send it in for some reason, you could buy a new plier head and bolt it on yourself, at least i think thats one of the components that you can buy.

No I don't think the plier head can be bought. Not sure though. I did have to buy a saw that I broke (prying on my fuel pump....) but I don't remember seeing the plier head as an option.

Check ebay...

but that's incredibly nice that they fixed you up for doing something that you yourself admit was a bit out of the scope of what it was intended to do...

Right? I mean it's not like I said it just "broke off for no reason" LOL. And my Axle got replaced for free under warranty as well. Yay for me and stuff being fixed! Now I just gotta get around to actually sending it in.

the good crew at SOG replace my PowerPlier tips after i broke them. They even sharpened and polished up the blades, and oiled the pivots.
