Sorry about the empty post ...hit enter instead of tab. oops.
My question is this: Would a glass/ceremics kiln be any good for heat treating knives. I just saw one advertised for cheap. I suppose it would depend mostly on it's temperature range capability. Any thoughts or comments?
Alternatively, any ideas on putting together an inexpensive gas forge would also be appreciated
Thanks much,
Happycat

If it goes to 2000 degrees . I have several kilns all bought used with digital controllers added. THey work great . You can update them easy. Just buy 2400 deg elements from a supplier for cpm materials

I also found a couple of really good looking ones on blacksmith webs. can't remember where you'll have to search that one out.
I have some digital pics that I can send e-mail, but I'm computer illiterate when it
comes to getting them on this forum. Maybe I need to post that.

I'm a few steps away from purchasing a heat treating oven and was wondering what the best route to take would be.

So far the best deal I've found is the Evenheat unit from Koval Knives w/ the RampMaster digital control for $950.00.

Is there a less expensive alternative?
What would you guys recommend?
I feel that electric is a better way to go for its control, but then again, I'm rather ignorant at this point.

Thanks for any input.
