I picked her up Friday at camp.

She has been wanting to go deer hunting with me this fall. I have been hesitant to commit to it because of concern about her managing a rifle and handling recoil.
While at camp she went to the skeet range, where they were letting each camper try six clays. She has never attempted clay shooting before. So she takes the 20 gauge pump in her still somewhat impaired hands, shooting from the right with her nerve-damaged eye that was never supposed to effectively function again, and powders three of her six clays, including the first one she ever shot at.

So I am buying a .243 this week, and scheduling some range sessions. Seems she always runs ahead of what I think her capable of at any given time.

Mike,

Good news indeed.
Good luck with the hunt.
For a little less recoil how about something in .250 savage?

Keep us updated on Kims progress as she is an inspiration to us all.

Nice shooting Kim! Keep shooting like that and Mike'll have you out in a hot dove field before you know it.

WOOO HOOOO!

Thats wonderful NEWS!

I love how the DAD came out so thundering proud.....I am going to get her a .243!

Another Awesome thread Mike.

Great news Mike. I'll be home (Near B'ham) for Christmas and could help out on the range or try to set up a comfortable hunt for the two of you. I think the .243 is a fine choice! With the right loads recoil is non-existent, and you can feasibly take any North American game with it. I have one for my 4 year old son as well!

All the very best to you and Kim, please get in touch if I can help in any way.

Mike, sounds like all your going to need on this hunting trip is your game warden for skinning. It appears she's going to be lining the deer up for you.

 :D

I'd go ahead and find a good jerky recipe.

Thats awesome news Kim! Give Mike some time to rest inbetween deer.

A .243 is a great round.
