FYI-

ABC 20/20 is doing a 2 hour spot on the Kim family. They were lost in the Oregon wilderness for 9 days back in 2006 after taking a logging road to the coast during a Thanksgiving trip to the NW.

That was a sad event for us here in the Bay Area. If I get time, I'll watch.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Yeah definitely a sad story. I remember when it happened. Still not sure why he didnt just walk the road back.

Was this the story about the TechTV/CNET editor that went looking for help after their car got stuck? I Believe she burned tires and breast feed the kids to keep them alive. What a sad story. I use to watch James Kim on TechTV quite a bit. A very nice guy. That was certainly a grey day for all techies, amazing he is still remembered and missed.

I watched it last night and really felt that 20/20 did a great job. They showed alot of compassion in the telling of the very sad story.

They also clearly and tactfully showed the mistakes that were made by the Kim's. It was a good reminder of how quickly things can go bad.

I've read quite a bit about the case and there some kooks out there playing the conspiracy/blame game. Thankfully, 20/20 didn't show that stuff.

James sounded like he was a excellent person, husband and father. Kati(mom) is one tough lady.

Yes, same story. Sad story. After watching it last night, my guess is that many of the viewers from this forum will be a little disappointed — not much "survival" content, in my opinion. It was a well-told story, however, especially if if you're unfamiliar with the event and its particulars.

Will it be aired again this weekend? Sadly missed it. Definitely a sad story.

It's available on 20/20's site.
True, not much content as to survival skills, but a powerful reminder about how things can get bad quickly.

I think is was a very well done story. I also think that the Kim family did a superb job with true survival having had no formal training and little equipment.

I liked how in the end of the story, the mom said that she has survival kits in all of their vehicles now. I would bet that she has also learned quite a bit about survival skills as a way to cope with her loss and to ensure that she is able to protect her family should something like this happen again. I would also bet she takes great pains to ensure that they never are placed in a survival situation to begin with through propper planning.
