Frustrating looking at plain Emerson folders around the net and what used ones are going for. Don't get it at all. The other thing that is frustrating is trying to sharpen my BM970 . It is a bitch to be sure and frankly don't understand why. I've probably owned more of the 7 series EKI's and BM's than any other folder I've had. For some reason this BM is just not making it. Now it will cleanly slice newsprint paper but tugs at arm hair and not the best at cutting lets say para cord, nor boot laces. It just seems to take more pressure than is warranted. On the chisel grinds I'm using my basic Lansky just so I can keep the bevel straight across the edge. Anyways snowing like hell and figured I'd sharpen my my 970 but its leading to frustration but again nothing better to do. stay safe and keepem sharp

I have come across some well-known production knives that you simply cannot get a satisfactory edge no matter how many times you try to sharpen it. Usually, poor heat treat is to blame. Some knives are just like trying to sharpen Jello, unfortunately.

Stupid question, but did you touch up the other side of the chisel grind at all? I had a friend that happened to. Had a chisel ground cold steel and only ever sharpened the beveled side. Ran the other side over a ceramic stick a few times and worked like a charm.

A knife cuts. A good knife cuts nicely.
Apparently, yours is NOT a good knife.

suggestion: dump it and use the cash to buy one that cuts nicely.
Life is short. Enjoy what's available.

And that's exactly what we want to give them: NO chance!
About the sharpening: have you tried just stropping them?
See if what you have in front of you just needs a little massage first...

But L longbow , more to the point, if stropping and apex sharpening fail to improve the cutting ability, you could try regrinding the blade thinner behind the edge. Even a dull apex will cut if sufficiently thin behind the edge.
