In the early 2000's my CRK Sebenza collection was pretty strong and I did a lot of buying and selling in many of the CRK variants. For whatever reason, I eventually lost interest in the blade hunt to a large degree and just used what I had already acquired in other makes and models or used some of the more budget friendly blades I picked up here and there, but I always told myself I would keep at least one Sebenza in my collection, which in this case, happens to be the classic black micarta Sebenza born in late 2007. Fast forward about 16 yrs
and throughout that period I really didn't follow or keep up with any CRK happenings or news. In other words, I was off the CRK grid
. Don't know why or how, but I recently had the urge to scratch the CRK itch again and it has been a pleasure. So, a few weeks ago, I picked up a small PJ DP Sebenza in Magnacut. I really wanted the Insingo blade but couldn't find one anywhere. Well, not to be deterred, I ordered the Large Insingo Micarta Sebenza in Magnacut and couldn't be happier with both purchases. Interestingly, they are not as "smooth" as the Classic but they are smooth. If you have a classic, you know what I mean. Just a different type of smoothness I suppose but very satisfying. Thus far, I am digging the ceramic ball detent on both of the 31's and I can tell that both will be broken in nicely in due time.
If I had any advice to lend to the younger knife collectors out there, it would be, invest your hard earned money into things that either appreciate or hold their value over time so if you ever need to sell, you will get a decent amount back if not more. During my research phase throughout this endeavor, it was quite clear to me, just as it was many moons ago, that CRK offerings are like the Rolexes in the timepiece world, and very few production knife companies can say or do that on a consistent basis.
Keep em sharp guys!
