My fourth Classic wood inlay arrived yesterday. Started my usual routine of sitting in front of the TV opening and closing it to smooth it up. The first 3 or 4 cycles were fine but now the locking bar is VERY hard to release. I've got strong hands and it take most of my thumb strength to release the lock. Never had this before on any Sebbie. Anyone else? I'm continuing to cycle it in the hope it will loosen up and if not, I'll tear it down and look for a burr. Yeah, I know, send it to CRK, but don't want to go through the shipping hassle or part with it for that long.

Since you are no newbie and know what you are talking about, I'd say take it apart and see what's causing the definately unusual action. I'm sure there is gunk in there somewhere... most likely there is a film on the lockbar where it meets the tang. With tolerances this close, almost anything will fudge them up when the're spanking new.

Yep. . .open that baby up and do some exploring.

If I lived close to ya. . .I'd bring over my Dremel. . .and numerous cutting wheels ! ;) :D

Well, tore down, cleaned, lubed and reassembled it. While apart, I slightly reduced the tension on the locking bar and clip. Did'nt see any burrs. Better, but still not what I've come to expect on a Sebenza. I'll tear it down again and use a marker to detect high spots and maybe a light polishing on contact points.

Gigone, stay away from me with your cutting wheels!:D

Follow up:

Disassembled it again and looked at the lock bearing surfaces under a 20X loupe. Found an almost microscopic burr on the bearing surface of the lock bar. Removed it and lightly polished it with Flitz. It now operates like a Sebenza should! Should'nt have to do that on a knife in that price range but I guess every maker has one slip through the cracks now and then.

BTW, I had emailed Mike at BestKnives.com before working on it. He replied at 11:00 PM EST (was'nt expecting a reply until Monday). He offered to do whatever it took to make it right, full refund or since he did'nt have another Rosewood in stock, have one shipped directly from CRK. Great guy to deal with and he's got my business in the future.

:( Man. . .I guess that I'm gonna have to put the Dremel and new tube of 50 cutting wheels away. One day. . . ;) :D

Actually. . .glad to hear that you got the Sebbie up and running. . .like it should ! :)

....you know the one......"Pobody's Nerfect"!!!!!!!!!!

Even thought I'd made an error once.....but I was mistaken! :-)
