Kinda' like a Nano.

I showed my father-in-law my Boker Nano a while back, and he really liked it, but wanted to know if I could find him something a little bigger.

The problem is.... there really isn't anything else like the Nano.

I think the Spyderco Native would feel kind of like a Nano, but I want to get the opinion of the collective intelligence of Bladeforums.

Right now, cost isn't really a barrier, but I'm sure the man isn't willing to spend more than $100.00!

Blade length, around 2.5" to 3".

Lock isn't really an issue, either, but it must lock.

Thanks in advance!

Short of having Curtiss make you a custom one that's bigger... there really is nothing like a Nano.

Well, there is the Spyderco Techno. Not quite, but more similarly proportioned? Still not a Nano.

Spyderco's - Pingo, Techno, Lionspy or at a stretch a Southard.
Boker and Boker Plus - Pipsqueak, Haddock, Dark Hollow. Difficult because the Nano is such a distinctive shape, if it's the deep blade then an Enlan EL-05 or M027 might be contenders.

Depends on what he liked about the Nano. One knife that I find comparable in use is the Cold Steel Tuff Lite - the blade is only slightly larger, but it "feels" like a larger knife because the handle is longer and gives you a full (and quite comfortable) grip. Also, it's only $30. Another good knife that more aesthetically resembles the Nano is the Kershaw Shuffle - also very, very affordable.

You might want to take a look at a SOG Bluto. It has the deep blade of the Nano, and it's not stabby at all. However, it is a high quality knife with a nice VG-10 blade.

Nano or Nano Plus?

I would look at the Cold Steel Tuff Lite (the mini tuff lite is a bit bigger, too).

The Strider SJ75 is very close, though it's a bit elongated as well.

The OP said he wouldn't want to spend over $100, so you recommend a $400 knife lol

Although, I do agree the SJ75 baby huey or SJ75s is about as close as you'll get to a larger nano. There are a few customs out there that are similar, but that's beyond $400.

The Nano is really distinct unfortunately, any bigger would be very awkwardly wide in hand/pocket since it's practically circular. Techno, Dragonfly2, Tuff Lite are closest I can think of off hand, maybe the Cricket, Spin, Lava, or Boker+ Subcom, but they are all even shorter.

The SJ75 can be had for around 300. He did say that cost isn't a barrier, the $100 seemed to imply preference, so I assumed that for the right knife the price wouldn't be a problem.

Techno is a awesome little knife, but may be hard to find sub $100 used. The Dragonfly is a nice knife too. What about a mini-grip? One of my all time favorite little ECD knives. I remove the clip from mine and toss in my pocket like a traditional knife.

The spyderco ppt by Fred Perrin is similar in my eyes. That was just from a cursory glance at a google image of the nano. Probably can't be had for $100 though.

This may be slightly out there, but what about the blade tech folding ulu?

I has a little more belly, but a similar snub nose style.

While they sold out at blade hq...you might want to try secondary market for a tuff knives war toad. Has a lot of the same features as the nano.
