Kindle Fire Protection?

I've spent all night trying to figure out which case would provide the best protection for my new kindle Fire while maintaining the slimmest profile as well as staying ergonomic. Based on my browsing it appears there are plenty of options but most are either by Marware or simply don't have much feedback. Has anybody else picked up one of these and can provide some feedback on their choice of case/protector? I figure 9 times out of 10 I'll be storing the device in my work bag (messenger bag which holds a novel or two, some food, various odds and ends I like to keep around when I'm on duty) but it'll likely see a few bumps and drops with potential for a misc spill nearby but probably not too worried about true waterproof as I don't plan on using it as a make-shift poncho. I would think the biggest thread would be accidental drops with the 2nd biggest consideration being slim and functional ergonomics.

Give it time. The Kindle Fire is new, relatively speaking. It takes time for companies like Otterbox to come up with cases. When I first got my Droid phone, it took 7 months before I found a decent case for it! Not because I didn't like what ws available but because there was literally nothing available.. Check the auction site to see what is available.

Esav, the company I work for ordered a couple to test out. They look promising for the cost. One significant problem that some people reported was setting up a mail client with the native software and having issues with IMAP settings. The Fire is Android based and it is fast, but at times it is sluggish, like when loading pages with loads of graphics (.gif, flash, etc). I think the device runs a little warm too, but that may get resolved along with other minor annoyance issues when the next firmware update is released.

I want to pick one up for Mrs. RevDevil, and haven't told her yet. :)

I think I like the business model, being able ot buy into what is practically unlimited entertainment.
I could give up Bladeforums and watch movies instead!

Netflix works pretty well on it, just saying. The comapny did the same thing with the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tab, and the iPad2 (which I held captive for almost 8 months now). The things we must do for research and inthe name of science!

On another note, the case I use for my iPad2 is very nice. Not sure what it is, but it jut says "casecrown" on the front. Might be some sort of leather, but has no smell. I think it might be Borinthian Pleather myself. :D

I saw some dinosaur leather at the American Museum of Natural History. It didn't smell either. Anymore.

Ive had mine now for a few days. The only problem I've had is learning to type on it (pudgy fingers). It does freeze occasionally, but usually just while its sitting, not when its doing things, which might just be the Wi-Fi. It is handy enough that it encourages you to try things you'd normally do on a real computer. I wasted 4 hours today just messing around on it. I'm looking for a case as well, so I'll follow this thread closely

I got a Fire for my daughter for Christmas. We got her a Navitech case from Amazon for it for around $10 and a Skinomi screen protector for around $5. The case seems slim enough and would provide some protection for an accidental drop. With it and the screen protector, we feel she is pretty well covered.

Saddleback is an interesting solution for impact resistance.
You may still want to trade up for real hermetic security later. :)

Some very good thoughts here, and while I'd love to get something like what otterbox offers apple users thats just not an option at the moment (and I dont want to wait 6mo to carry my fire to work). Ended up going with the Marware Microshell Folio, which arrived today thanks to AmazonPrime. I won't go into a full review or anything but I can say I'm pretty happy with it. Not the ultimate in protection but sleek with good coverage and protection from daily wear, plus the built in stand is nice for streaming videos or what have you.

Will be watching for something a little beefier to become a real option, though.

As others have said. Give it time. Kindle Fires are selling like hot cakes at a fat kid convention. More and more companies will come out with cases for them.
As far as Otterbox products go... they just add too much bulk to devices. Turns the already large Iphones into small bricks (have not seen them on anything but Iphones), and turns a thin Ipad into something the size of a small laptop. :barf:
