Kindling Axe

David,
Glad to see it getting some use. Nothing worse than an idle tool...well maybe a lost tool but you know what I mean. Just back from the PI and dealing with my uncles estate, he passed while I was gone. Feeling like I am completing his job list softens the blow and gives me purpose..

Mick,
When I was young, Grandpa told me hatchets were designed to remove the thumbs of careless boys. My kindling splitter was an old leaf spring with rubber tape for a handle and a beveled edge, combined with a hammer, it split many pieces of wood down to thumb size for the woodstoves.

Bill

Kindling axe from my friend L lmalterna got some use today. Thanks again Bill!

Beautiful little hatchet. The handle is graceful, the head is unique, but familiar somehow. I love everything about it.

With the little hammer head, it would be a good wooden lath tool.

I also prefer a froe for kindling. I have the Buck one, like Mick Boardman Mick Boardman but need to make a traditional one with the 90* handle. I’ll probably use a leaf spring. Like Bill, maybe some rubber tape too. Lol.

When people ask about batoning a knife, it makes me cringe. I want to scream GET A FROE! Lol. 😂
