Kindling Splitting Knife

I had one of the Swiss Military Kindling knives that I used to split 2x4s for kindling and occasionally to take the edges off a split log too big to go in the stove. The tang finally broke and I'm looking for a replacement - a heavy duty blade that will take serious batoning. I've looked at froes which would work but I'd prefer something smaller than the 14" blade with 15" handle. I have a Wetterlings hatchet but the kindling knife was easier to use. So I'm looking for a 1/4" thick by 10" or so blade and I'd like to stay in the $50- $100 range.

This is what I'm trying to replace.

I welcome suggestions. Thanks.

Yeah , the BK9 is the only "good" knife I know of that big and that cheap .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS ! :emot-yarr:

For a little more, look at the Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard lineup. Just to add to my post above, the BK9 is 3/16, so not quite as thick as you are looking for. Still, it's a knife that everyone should own. See my signature.

I'm going third the bk9! It isn't 1/4 but there's no way your going to brake it splitting kindling.

Yes, to the Kabar Becker BK-9 and consider the Becker BK-2 as well. It is one tough beast!

Condor Pack Golok or the Hudson Bay Knife are less $ but will still give good service.

Yeah. A little late now but there are a number of Condors that would fit the bill nicely.

BK-9 is a great choice! You are going to love that blade. Now you just need a BK11 or BK16 to pair it with and your all set.
