And, while I'm at it with the crazy ideas...
I've heard the ideas about a kinetic opening rescue, similar to the gunting.
Well, I had an idea to add to it.
How about a sheepsfoot kinetic opening rescue - on the end of a dive probe?
Here's my reasoning:
The rescue is intended to cut seatbelts, etc. Many times, it would probably be helpful to also be able to pry with the knife, since seatbelts only usually need to be cut at the scene of an accident.
The extended reach of the handle would be very helpful.
Plus, the point of the ramp would act like a hammer, and would make a great glass breaker.
It would be a great tool for police officers - it would work well for self defense with good textured G-10 slabs on the handle, with a very long reach with the kinetic opening. You could use the guntings' pressure point/joint locks, add some FMA non-lethal stick fighting techniques, and have much the same flow of the gunting.
It would make a great dive knife. Safe, useful, good for getting untangled in seaweed.
I know the dive probe wasn't made for very long. But, I think this would have a far larger potential market.
If you wanted to go all out, you could make the handle out of Titanium, with a frame lock type compression lock. Maybe put some nice holes in the handle to decrease weight.
Make the blade/handles out of Ti and market it to Demolitions teams / mine clearing. Or, make the handles out of Steel with G-10 slabs and the blade out S30V, and market it to LEO's. Color the G-10 orange, sell it to paramedics/firefighters. So many variations would be possible.
With the right sheath, it would be possible to carry it on a belt. Course, it probably would be a pain to carry, depending on handle length. Fortunately, Spyderco also makes the most excellent Gunting, which is much more size friendly.
Just another crazy idea brought to you by...
