I thought it was about time to show off some of my custom work.

This was a custom job for a huge Bowie. This monster is made from 3/8" thick 440C stainless steel and is the biggest knife that I have made so far. Overall it measures 21" with a 3" x 15" mirror polished blade. It wieghs in at just a little over 4 pounds! It has giraffe bone handles with brass pins, guard, and end cap. The sheath is leather with stingray inlay.

I have a photo essay about making this knife on my website at Making the King Kong Bowie

This was a fun project for a good customer.

WOW
Now that's a BOWIE.
Nice work, must have been a difficult project.
Impressive sheathwork as well.

that is insane! over 4 pounds sounds like i need to get one for my new EDC:D
That is a beauty, i like brass too, alot of people dont seem to like it but i do, i prefer a more antique look to it but if left alone it'll age nicely.:)
Sheath is pretty impressive too!
really massive! i keep looking at the pictures as i type this...
i'd love to see what you'd do if you did an elephant toe slipjoint:eek::eek::D

Thanks. That thing was a bear to mirror polish but it was a fun project. I am now making a matching Arkansas Toothpick for him.

I like brass too but it seems to go in and out of favor. I do a lot of brass, stainless steel and nickel silver guards and end caps.

Here is another huge Bowie I recently finished with antiqued brass.

Outstanding craftsmanship.

What are the specs on this one?

That one is a little over 15" overall length with a 440C blade 10 1/4" long, 3" wide and 1/4" thick. I weighs in at a mere 2 3/4 pounds! It has sambar stag handles with brass liners.

The design is actually a copy of a civil war era d-guard Bowie without the d-guard. The customer wanted a really rustic look. You can see more about that one here: Making the Kodiak Bowie

that's some BURLY steel:eek:

very cool, some real nice work...I really like huge blades, I would say these certainly fit in that category!

Well done!

really cool of you to share how you created this beast, love the antiqued brass on the smaller one you posted.
You are very talented and probably a little crazy after grinding and mirror polishing a 4 lb blade:D
awesome work
