Just ordered a Cold Steel Riflemans 'hawk on Amazon . Made in Taiwan $36
Then I stumbled across a Kings County Hatchet, made in Germany $45

The KC hatchet looks very much like a tomahawk,
Has a nail pull slot,
The striking face is beefier.
9 bux more seems worth it to get German vs Taiwan product
I think I will also order the Kings hatchet to compare side by side with the CS,
then return what I'm not happy with.

Anyone own any Kings County cutting tools?

They are some kind of upscale tool shop in Brooklyn New York , they are not a tool manufacturer.
Looking on their site ( though they only sell on SCAMAZON) they have many of the same item's that Garrett wade sells.
I don't know about the one you're looking at, but the other hatchets they offer look like they're made by Helko Werk.

The price isn't bad, but I think I personally would figure out who made it and buy the original for possibly a little less without their name on it.

Thanks for replying. Looking at GW, they have the identical hatchet, minus the nail pulling slot. And I think that would be handy.
And GW gets over 75 bux for their version ! I looked up what Helko Werk offers, and didn't see anything similar. Paying Kings County 45 bux doesn't seem very painful.

I bought both. Here are some features, pluses and minuses.

COLD STEEL RIFLEMAN HAWK;
Larger striking face, smaller cutting edge
22 inch hickory handle, but you can cut to a preferred length
made in Taiwan , but laser etched and easy to grind off
ridiculous set screw is unnecessary to retain handle (plan to weld hole closed)
head weighs 1lb 10.5oz
no nail pulling slot, but can be added
Amazon price to my door $38.42
will absolutely need to be sharpened before use (but for the price difference, you can put your preferred bevel on edge)
nylon sheath sold separately

KING'S COUNTY TOOL TOMAHAWK HATCHET:
smaller striking face, larger cutting edge
16 inch hickory handle
made in Germany
forging flash isn't ground very well, but hey, labor costs are higher in Germany than Taiwan
head weighs 1lb 9.4 oz
has a nail pulling slot that is rather large. I would rather have made my own
reasonably sharp as delivered
includes a cheap naugahide sheath, that got cut thru in shipping.
(Planning to order sheaths from
Hatchets and Axes web site)
Amazon price to my door $47.80

Haven't put either to work yet, but will post my opinions when I do.
Also considering posting a review on YouTube
