Anyone heard of this band? I just got their newest album (they have two) and it ROCKS. Not to toot my own horn, but I have pretty good taste in music
. And this is the best new band I have heard in many years. They have their own sound, and they rock doing it.
Imagine a Rolling Stones in their prime, with The Cult mixed in, and performed in this gritty, loose, punk acid style. And the singer's vocals sound like a raunchy, spirited version of Randy Newman.
The band is made of three brothers and a cousin. The brothers grew up traveling with their alcoholic preacher Dad in the south, and some of that is reflected in their lyrics. [Leon is name of Dad] The lyrics are often undecipherable, but that makes them no worse than much of Zeppelin's and the Stone's material.
The songs are very short-- and very catchy-- with some awesome guitar and bass grooves. However catchy their stuff is, the material is NOT mainstream pop. The hooks are unusual and creative.
I almost gave up on modern rock, having heard nothing great since the days of Frank Black, Pixies, and the early Tragically Hip.
If you need some new material in your CD collection, check this one out. You won't be disappointed. Warning-- it's addictive.
Edited to add name of album: Aha Shake Heartbreak
