Anyone heard of this band? I just got their newest album (they have two) and it ROCKS. Not to toot my own horn, but I have pretty good taste in music :D . And this is the best new band I have heard in many years. They have their own sound, and they rock doing it.

Imagine a Rolling Stones in their prime, with The Cult mixed in, and performed in this gritty, loose, punk acid style. And the singer's vocals sound like a raunchy, spirited version of Randy Newman.

The band is made of three brothers and a cousin. The brothers grew up traveling with their alcoholic preacher Dad in the south, and some of that is reflected in their lyrics. [Leon is name of Dad] The lyrics are often undecipherable, but that makes them no worse than much of Zeppelin's and the Stone's material.

The songs are very short-- and very catchy-- with some awesome guitar and bass grooves. However catchy their stuff is, the material is NOT mainstream pop. The hooks are unusual and creative.

I almost gave up on modern rock, having heard nothing great since the days of Frank Black, Pixies, and the early Tragically Hip.

If you need some new material in your CD collection, check this one out. You won't be disappointed. Warning-- it's addictive.

Edited to add name of album: Aha Shake Heartbreak

I'm looking forward to seeing them live, tickets go on sale Sunday for their show in SF. Most people might know them from their song "Molly's Chambers" featured in a VW ad recently. "Happy Alone" Rocks!

I love Aha Shake Heartbreak.

U2 gave these guys opening slots, and Bono made sure to mention them to the media every chance he got.

They are Rock Gods, before they even know it. I hope to hear a lot of new music come of this band over the years. They make music that they like to make, and hoped the rest of the world would too. It seems that the formula for success like White Stripes or Queens of the Stone Age is to follow no formula, just rock hard.

My favorites are "Slow Night, So Long", "King of the Rodeo", "Milk", and "Soft".

If you are not into slammin' rock, "Milk" will stop you AND your old lady in your tracks.

Best Regards,

Steven,

That's cool that U2 gave them their props. I find it almost impossible to single out a song on that album to say it is my least favorite. It might be Day Old Blues, but even that is a good tune. It's a frickin awesome album that goes buy in a flash. I can't wait to get their first one.

Speaking of the Queens, is their new album pretty good? I have the 1st one, and like it a lot.

The bestest album is #3, "Songs for the Deaf". It has a wierd quirky thing where they pretend that you are listening to the radio, switching stations with static and stuff, and the songs change style to go with it. QOTSA is total stoner music in that they refer to past and future albums throughout the current album that you are listening to.

The new album is called "Lullabies to Paralyze". I don't like it as much. It doesn't have as many killer songs. "Song for the Dead" on Songs for the Deaf, with lyrics by Mark Lanegan just defines Rock.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
