Hi guys. Well, I’m looking for a kiradashi style knife. Don’t know where to start looking so I decided to ask your advice.( It’s always the best:thumbup: )

I always carry an offensive oriented blade with me when working, sometimes it’s my Benchmade 860 or my custom Scroggs boot dagger. I also carry a small fixed blade for utility tasks.Something I could pull out in crowded restaurant to open a box or something without attracting too much attention. :o

But I would like to get something a bit more discreet. Something that could do basic cutting. A kiradashi style knife is what I’m looking for, may be in titanium (I really have no experience with titanium, is it hard to sharpen?). Are there any production kiradashi knives out there, which are of good quality? Or is custom the way to go?

I demand a lot from the tools I carry, and I know quality means spending a bit more. But I do at time depend on these things with my life.

Thanks and be safe out there.

Ed, Mitchell Knives has a pretty slick one for sale on the first page of the Knifemakers for sale forum.

I sent an email, was gonna include two links but the other one i had in mind sold. but the maker is worth checking out, his stuff seems good and you might like his style:

Sam Eddelman here on the forums. frequents the exchange

I like this design. The small space between the handle and the blade makes me think that it would be very discreet if I decided to use it in a public space. I’m not looking for a weapon oriented blade. I’m leaning more towards a tool blade.

Hey Edwood, here is some of my Kiridashis made from broken files. Hot cut and hot filed. Then just the cutting edge is heat treated. The one in the little sheath is my edc to cut cardboard at real job. Sheath is attached via a leather thong so you don't have to look for it. Very handy, I reach for it all day. 3 1/2" x 1". The larger on is 4 1/2" x 1 1/4". It has 2 sharp planes and a finger place forged in. All are chisel bevels. I've made about a hundred of them 'cause I can't throw anything away.
I get $45.00 each with a simple sheath. Shipped

I saw this carbon fiber Kiridashi and thought it'd match my bike nicely but had seconds thoughts on it because I have no experience with carbon fiber as a material for knives. Does anyone know how it holds up? My main concern was it splintering on the edge so if I ever touched the edge, like I often do on my knives, would bits of carbon fiber get stuck in my hand/finger and make my life suck for the next week? I've handled broken carbon fiber bike frames and the stuff is worse than fiber glass. Honestly the smallest fiber in your skin will make it hurt for a week. If it holds up, this would be a sweet kiridashi.

I'll be making a run of kiridashis soon. My father in law is giving me some O1 steel.

snody does some carbon fiber ones i think. carbon fiber is okay as a cutting tool. it wont deliver the performance of a good knife though. also you can touch them up with sandpaper. just make sure you wet it down bc you may die if you breath in carbon fiber. i also like snodys crisis cards in ti, awesome videos for them too on snodyworld. you gotta love lil boosie.

Mike Snody makes great Kiradashis.

This one is his Snody Titanium Kiradashi w/"Snody Gucci Money Laser Print"I own.

man i know those beads are super spendy. but i bet that gucci money laser print has got to be a joy to use. and it even has a bottle opener. i cant tell you how many things i have been sold on mainly bc of the bottle opener haha

I bought the Snody Money Titanium Kiradashi from Ultrareef.

The bead was a gift from Mike Snody himself when I bought a Snody Carbon Fiber Friction LTD folder from him because it took a little long to get the folder from him...He gives outstanding service, quality knifes..My favorite custom knife maker.

Never used the Kiradashi. Its a safe queen.
