I just received this today, Kirby's claw model.
I'm not a folder collector, 95% of my collection is fixed blades, I first noticed Kirby's knives in August of 2005.
The claw model immediately caught my attention, there are 2 versions of this knife, the linerlock model and the integral lock.
I talked with Kirby at Blade West last year in Oregon and I found him to be very personable, the fit and finish on all of his work is first class (I'm not easily impressed) his grinds are immaculate.
I have a Chisel Tanto on order from Mr. Lambert but I wanted one of his blades in my collection (right now)
Upon opening the box and examining the grinds, the plunge cuts are dead center perfect (I have seen a few custom makers that have been making knives much longer than Kirby that still can't get this part right)
As most of you know, when you open the blade on a folder very slowly to the point when the lock engages, if the maker knows what he's doing the lock will jump into place. Kirby passed the test here, the lock snaps into place with a loud thwack.
Rock solid lockup with no bladeplay in any direction and the lock requires a decent amount of pressure to disengage, which I like.
There are no gaps between the titanium frame and the G-10 overlays, pearl inlayed thumbstud adds a nice touch, I couldn't find anything wrong with this knife (I mention that because even some of my favorite knives have a thing or two I'd like to have fixed) and the handle just melts into your hand.
The blade is sharp as hell and this one is going into my collection and is definitely a keeper.
