"Kirby D. Wise Legendary Blades" (aka Kirby Wise Arms and Armour) now has it's own domain name. Made the changover in early 2003. So Anyone looking for his website can now find it at:
www.kirbywise.com
I have reedited all my older "Archived" threads (havent been here in awhile) that gave the old "Tripod" address to reflect this new change.
We moved from Tripod as it's increasing popups were giving viewers "fits" (including ourselves). Were getting several complaints from customers about them. Who knows how many were chased away without telling us.
Our website has been upgraded with new background pages. Also with many new photos of custommade swords, daggers, axes, spears and other weaponry from different historical periods and cultures. Both decorated and plain. As long planned (and soon to be expanded) a "Jewelry" page is finally up. Since finally getting a digital camera, fewer pieces leave the shop unrecorded now. Which also means different pieces, not included, can be sent as examples as Kirby is not limited to just what is shown in our website.
All of his work is handforged/tempered using traditional ways and methods in a traditional blacksmith shop for the past 50 years. All of his blades are made from Spring Steel (5160) and all are fully functional. There are many decorative options but we do not cast. What may look "cast" is handcut piercework and fused as overlay. Heavy leather fitted scabbards are included with swords, daggers and spearheads. Axes are shipped with leather blade covers.
Our 24 year old son, Brenden, has been helping in the shop since he was 17 and in honor of this, "& Son" has been included. For the past few years a "B" has been included to Kirby's familar "K over an Anvil" trademark on all pieces made in the shop now.
In 2003, Kirby was elected member and "Fellow" of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Why "FSA Scot." is included. As a member of the Clan Fraser Association of Southern California (registered Sept of the Frasers of Lovat in Scotland) since 1966, Kirby had formally adopted the hyphenated "-Fraser" as part of his name for years. He was made by offical Warrant, Clan Armourer, (the first since the Rising) in 1979 by the late 18th Lord Lovat, Simon (MacShimi) Fraser, 24th Chief of the Frasers of Lovat. This was re-affirmed the present 19th Lord Lovat, Christopher Fraser, 25th Chief after his grandfathers passing.
His work can be found used by many Living History reenactors, especially in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. where he has been a member since 1968 (Kingdom of Atenveldt). He is a double Master of the Laurel as Baron Kovacs Zsoltan, ML (West/Atenveldt), Ct.Baron (Atenveldt) and was made "Swordmaker to the Kings of Atenveldt" after being commissioned by the Aten Chivalry in early 2004 to replace the previously stolen sword. (Atenveldt Regalia was stolen in late 2003) You can see it here
