First off, is that the proper spelling? I was just looking for information on what the normal uses are, handle styles, etc. Is it just a utility knife, or is it a traditional knife with a certain purpose, like cutting leather or something? Thanks for any info.

Yes it's the right spelling. If my memory doesn't fail it's a music instrument maker's tool. It"s to verify but what i'm sure is that it's a tool for light tasks.
