I put up a thread the other day asking about anvils and e-bay and i got some great advise. A few people said good things about the harbor freight anvils as good starter anvils and guess what. There is a HF not to far from me they have three steel 110lb anvils. This is the great part... they are located on lost knife road. I tell you it's fate. Thanks for all of the great help

I started out on one of those (only a 55lb one). I was surprised how well it rebounded. It really helps (A LOT) if you secure it to your stump, stand or what have you. If you leave it loose, it'll jump around a bit and not perform nearly as well.
Congrats!

dang...I think that is the HF that got built right AFTER I left Gaithersburg...:(

hope it works out for ya.

I am involved in assisting with some knife making classes. Just a 3 day basic.
I bought 2 100lb anvils chinees and soft. The comparison between the bound of a ball bearing on them is they have only about 1/3 the bounce. This indicates they are soft. However we have used then for the past 2 clases and they work well. All the miss hits and edge wacks don't make me cry half as much now.

As a starter cheap soft anvils are ok good infact. However one day treat yourself to a good one. May be when you start getting a few sales spoil yourself.

Good luck with the harbour frieght.
