Ok i am in a predicament i would really like a good edge i need one for miscellaneous tasks such as cutting rope, cord, packaging and EDC as well. I am currently looking at purchasing a KISS or PECK CRKT edge. I live in Aus so imports from US cost lots. i am looking to spend about $50 AUS or around $38 US (i know its not much but i'm poor at the moment :grumpy: but still lol). If anyone has a good edge in mind or knows someone who is selling a good edge in Australia that would be great

If you are going to cut rope and all that stuff, i don't suggest you get either. Ive had a KISS before and it wasnt even a decent edge holder. The short tanto blade was terrible for EDC tasks. If you want to stick with CRKT I suggest one of the M16's with AUS8 steel. Otherwise go Spyderco. The D4 and E4 make great beaters!

I would also not recommend a KISS for daily cutting tasks. I just got one in the mail a few days ago. It's a neat little gadget knife but not really suited for EDC. In fact, in the KISS instruction booklet it says:

If you need a knife for daily, heavy-duty carving and cutting work tasks, please select one of the many other knives in the CRKT line.

I have no experience with Winchester knives.

What about a KA-BAR Dozier? They go for about $20 US in the states when purchased on line.

Could get a Byrd. They also go for about $20 on line. Very non-traditional.

And I think Buck has non-traditional knives in the $25-$35 range when purchased on-line.

I'd stay away from Winchester.

The mule is on my want list. A couple of threads have discussed it. Most agree it is a really tough son of a gun. Some feel it is a little too big in diameter to fit comfortably in the pocket as an EDC.

Second that. I have both, although I don't carry them anymore. The lock mech on both knives isn't truly...reliable. I use either knife more as a slip joint and that's kept my fingers intact.

If you decide to stick with CRKT for monetary reasons, go with the models that use AUS 8 steel as opposed to AUS 6, and whatever you do, avoid any models that use AUS 4.

yeah for around the 50AU mark, kbar mules or byrd knives (mitchells adventures, or king of knives) are good.
If you dont mine a swiss army knife, I recommend a Victorinox Soldier, about $40Au from aussie disposals.

our collectors club sell some nice gear. http://knivesaustralia.com.au/akc-homepage.html
most of which is beyond your 50 tho. But there are some on clearence see http://www.knivesaustralia.com.au/superseded-knives.html

The meerkat would be pretty nice. The CRKT montana gentleman for 86au seems like a steal.

Happy Hunting,
