Heading my collection towards more traditional knives. Planning to get Buck 100/112, Boker Stag Congress and Barlows (Solingen Tree's only), and bunch of Schrades. Stumbled across Kissing Cranes. Are they of good quality and tradition, and simply underrated? Or are they not very popular because quality has gone downhill? Please pour in your thoughts and experiences...

If you want good cheap traditional knives to try out new patterns look at Rough Riders they will set you back $5-10. Colt slip joints are made in the same factory but have slightly tighter tolerances to my knowledge. Just a fair warning though their recent batch of carbon steel slipjoints have some pretty thick blades compared to the slimmer ones you usually find in traditionals. I own the Rough Rider Canoe, Copperhead and Colt carbon steel Canoe, carbon steel Trapper.

Kissing Crane is inferior to Rough Rider in terms of quality, fit and finish, etc to my understanding so it would be best to avoid them. Head on over to the traditional forum and they tell you all you want to know and than some.

All these are made in China to my knowledge if that matters to you. And the newer Schrades are made in China as well.

I had 2 of their stilletos. One with wood handle, one with stag. They were both great knives. Very nice fit and finish and surprisingly tough. I carried the wood handled one all through high school and for about 2 years after I graduated. They were both Solingen Germany. The wood handled one was all of $16. The stag was about $22.

I had no idea the new ones were made in china!!! That sucks!

HA... I'm Chinese in blood and I still prefer not to buy Chinese made knives. Thanks for the suggestions.
