Hello all,

I'm new to custom folders (have been involved with custom fixed blades), so I appologize if this has been covered. Is Kit Carson still taking orders for folders? I checked his web-page but the link for the contact info does not work. Approximately how long is the wait for delivery after one has been ordered?

Thank you

Kit is probably backed up until 5 years after he passes(a joke...am very fond of Kit).

Your best bet is shows, dealers OR the aftermarket....he is prolific, so his work surfaces with regularity.

So a custom order is impossible. Is that the reason that on his site the model 4 is listed at around $500, whereas dealers sell them for over double? You say he is prolific, about how many pieces do you estimate he produces a year?

Thanks again

1. The reason that Kit's work sells for double on dealer sites is that it is priced significantly too low to begin with...just like Boguszewski, Lovett, Lum and Young, to name a few. The prices directly from these makers are a gift.

2. I have no idea how many knives Kit makes a year, but I would guess more than 50.

You can find them come up every once in a great while in the Exchange and on for sale sections on other forums.

They are hard to get, but well worth it to find one. Every once in a blue moon, you can find one for under $1000.

You might try doing a wanted post in the exchange.

Your best bet is to check with Kit himself. You may well be able to place an order with him, but don't expect it any time soon.

I don't know, Keith......I had Kit do some refurb work, and am on good terms with him....it took almost a year. Fully appreciated, but a fair amount of time.

Gig One would know how long it takes from Kit direct, so would WWG.

My order for a lock-back has been with Kit for 3 years. I'm expecting it to be another 3 years before I see it - and well worth the wait. :)
