Had to share this beaut of a folder, belongs to none other than PhilL, you can guess the scale material can't you? For those that have lived in a cave for the past few years, it's Stag and the blade is 6K Stellite and it has a VERY toothy edge!
Blade is just a hair over 3" from bolster to tip, handle measures about 4", liners are jeweled and the action is so very smooth with a secure lockup using a liner lock mech.

Nice one PhilL and excellent...or rather Stellar workmanship Kit!

That has to be one of my all time favorites.
Actually got to see this knife in person as Phil brought it to the NY custom knife show.

I have said this on the forums in the past and I will say it again (and you may quote me on this) - you cannot go wrong with a Model 4. Simple in design but beautifully executed.

Great looking 4 there, Gary!

I knew when I bought that knife at Blade Show 2001 that I was gonna get a G2 sheath for it, but it took me this long to bear to part with it long enough for Gary to make the sheath.

Posting the pic helps.

Look at the pic Gary just sent me.

Well a fob hole would have helped, but the way PhilL wanted to carry her was on his left side for a right hand cross draw...-->

And there is JUST enough handle sticking up to place your thumb on top and first finger along the front of the stag and pull the knife clear.

The Thumbstud provides great retention within the sheath, works very nice and has a solid THUNK when she seats back in....

Heading out today PhilL...still like that knife too!

I meant to post this on Tues. when the knife arrived.

Gary, thanks for the quick turn-around and the sheath is lovely. I've made a couple of sheaths in my day (while is was in the Navy) and they were funtional, but not the level of Gary's work.
As a comparison between my two G2 sheaths, (my Washburn being the other one) the Washburn after 1& 3/4 years still has a solid snap with no fear of coming out by accident. The Carson on the other hand, really does go in with a THUNK very reassuring. Gary cut this one a little longer reducing the purchase somewhat on the butt. Not surprising since the butt of the Washburn is almost 1/4" thicker. I'm not a quickdraw artist, so I gladly trade speed for security.

The left side, cantered, crossdraw is perfect for me, it lets me access the knife with either hand, my right hand being dominant. I have Gary make my sheaths so the knife is point up, (the other way is just backwards) to show off the stag. I'm in a suit and tie most days and when I push the sheath back it's unnoticeable under my arm.

As much as I trust Gary it still wasn't easy to part with this knife, even for the short time it took him to make this sheath. Of course now I'm glad I did. It was a lot easier with the Washburn because I had Art send the knife to Gary first. I don't know when the next time will be, but if it's at all possible the knife goes to Gary first.

Thanks again G2, let's do it again real soon.

Phil, you got good taste.
Gary, excellent work as always!(btw, I really enjoy our early morning phone calls).
Kit, great knife, Mike is teaching you well :D

You're more than Welcome PhilL and yes the knife was slimmer than the Washburn and so I felt more comfortable with a deeper purchase on the handle, once you get use to it, it shouldn't be too difficult to remove but as you say security vs speed on this one is ok..;)

As to parting is sweet sorry, hope the reunion was twice as nice!:)
I'm appreciate your trust sir and this is one of the PERKS of this work for me, getting to view some of the TOP makers' knives! BUT there is a DOWN side to that...it makes you WANT all of those knives!
and I can't get them all....:(

Thanks PhilL!

And Dave, always like hearing from you sir, and if luck holds out, I'll see you in December at the Chesapeake show!

Gary, I would like to get on the list to commission a carry sheath like that. And since I dont even know what knife I would want it for yet there must be no real hurry!

anyplace have a catalog of the knives you have built cozy homes for? You really are gifted!

Thanks, appreciate the compliment, I have a web site Here

Just email when and if you get the hankerin' for a sheath, only take
orders right now for folder sheaths and then it also depends on the
knife itself, some don't lend themselves for leather dwellings, while some
do remarkably well in them!

A few that really snap in nice

Woahhhhh, a223cat must have taken a trip in the Way Back machine. I thought I was having an acid flashback when I saw this thread appear.
Ya know I knew G2 was going to make the sheath before I bought my knife also.

As an update, I of course still have my Carson, I still carry it in it's G2 sheath. I never had a problem getting it out and it still goes in likes it's getting sucked in. After over four years of use it still looks great.

You can't go wrong with a G2 sheath.

Anything to BTTT this charming thread. The sheath is killer. Where's the pics of the knife ???!!!!

Coop

thanks Coop, that was way before I had a digital camera, so
that image was made by laying the knife and sheath on a flat bed
scanner and scanning it in...
PhilL, not sure where that image of the knife went too???

I probably had the pic on my HD. the one that died in 2003.

Here's a pic that I did before I had a digital camera, meaning it was done on a scanner.
