Hey Guys....

Anyone interested in kit knives ?

I've seen that quite a few people have been putting together kit knives,,some have really been nice,,but some of the patterns I have seen from different knife supplies are rather quite boring traditional drop points or the such....

I'm working on a couple of different makers and hope to be coming out with about 6-8 different patterns, the majority of them will hopefully be of the tactical nature...

Of those of you who would be interested,,what types of materials would you be most interested in, steel, handle materials, embelishments such as mosaic pins ??

Some nice tactical kit knives would be nice to see,,don't you think ??

Hope to hear some suggestions and encouragement from you guys..:)

Funny just today in another thread I was mentioning kit knives. Your idea sounds great. and if they had the sort of kits that could be worked on by people without a workshop and common hand tools be great.

BG-42 blade, 8" OAL, full tang, stabilized wood scales. Kydex and all materials and instructions for making a sheath would be included. Drop point or spear point with sharpenable false edge.
Some kits should be low buck- Micarta, ats-34- some kits should be more premium like the one I want.

Mosaic pins on a tactical? BWAHAHAHA!

I just finished a DDR/Koval 605 folder kit. When some more of these newbies (like me) find out how much fun this is with very few tools, you're going to sell a million kits. You'll have to moderate your own kit knife forum.

Ok, Kit

Lets see a kit knife designed by you, or maybe your Son In Law.

I think you'd have some bigtime sellers.

You guys up for the challenge?? DDR showed us his.....now show us yours!:p

LOL. I was gonna answer that I have a Model 4, Model 16, BAK, F4.....oh, you mean knives put together from kits? I was up at Kit's place to help make my M16 - a knife from Kit's :D

Yeah, I've been thinking of getting a 605 to work on myself....I might pick one up at the gun show this weekend if Koval Knives will be set up there.

Hi Eric -- not sure if you're talking folders or FBs or both.

Certainly for folders, BG-42 or VG-10 would be nice steel. For FBs, I'd sure like to see VG-10. Maybe M2. Of course, wouldn't sneer too much at 154CM.

Pretty hard to beat G-10 as a good handle material. I've been very pleased with that on the Kershaw Avalanche. The most textured G-10 I've seen, tho somebody suggested the Gunting's is even more grippy.

A folder kit with a 3" blade would be great.:) Hell, I'd even take a (gasp) liner lock. Been eyeing up the DDR kit from Koval's myself. A lock back would be nice, too. Great idea Eric. Maybe include an OST neck rig with the kits???

Hey Guys..

LOL@Kit...

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of smaller fixed blades.

Everything would pretty much be done on them except for scales..

Nothing is written in stone yet,,so anything is possible...

I think it’s a very good idea…I recently put together one of the DDR/Koval 605 folders and I thoroughly enjoyed both the process and the results. I’d be very interested in kits that would allow a neophyte user to assemble a small fixed blade with semi-premium materials. It’d be a nice touch if the kits for various blade styles were offered in both “tactical” and “dress” versions; the tactical package would satisfy the bead-blast/G-10 crowd and the dress version could offer refinements like stabilized wood scales and mosaic pins (if you can just do one, I’d prefer the “dress” version :)). I’d really like to see kits that could be assembled with a minimal amount of hand tools…there are probably quite a few folks (like myself) who live in apartments or other circumstances that prevent us from having access to any kind of shop area or power equipment. Pre-cut material for the scales would be a big plus for me. A nice add-on for these projects would be do-it-yourself Kydex sheath kits with all of the necessary materials…but I can understand how that might be contrary to the interests of your business ;).

For a fixed blade kit, I would want a bowie. Maybe some blade shape, guard and handle options. For a folder kit, I would like a multiblade slipjoint foder. A whittler or congress pattern with blade choice options and scale, bolster and pin options. I would like it to be able to be done with hand tools. Just a wish list.

Vg10 would have to be my pick for the blade steel unless it would be CPM10V!!!
