I am looking into buying a folder kit and some dymondwood for handles. My question is, the knife blade and liners comes UNfinished and I have no clue what to use to finish them. I work on cars and I know to finish paint you have to sand the finish starting with a heavy grit and working your way to a fine grit. Then I use a Highspeed buffer and a finishing compound to bring the shine back up.

Is this basically what to do to finish a kit? What kind of compounds/buffers/wheels etc.. will I need?

The sanding sounds great .
Hand rubbing the handles and bolsters together in even strokes will make a nice finish. I dont use a buffer so I cant answer the other question.

Will this give me a polished blade/bolster or is that something that will require buffing?

You can get a mirror polish by hand sanding thru 1500 grit.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!
