Everyone talks about there woods or hiking "survival kits", but what would you carry in an "urban survival kit"? Let`s hear some thoughts about what you would carry, and why. Pictures are always welcome!

External battery for tech items, charger cords, USB adapters. Cell phone is a stupidly versatile tool in any urban environment, but you've gotta have the juice for it.

AA batteries are another good one, tons of items take them.

yep, a usb storage device, usb cable that fits my phone, a spare battery for my flashlight is normlay rolling around in my bag as well, some quarters and a notepad and pen, lighter,

here's some pictures with urban edc worthy items i use

gotta have a multi tool, people friendly to :)

I always trya nd fita compass in somewhere, urban or not, i like compasses :) don't think this knife fits the catagory though :(

When away from home I carry a portable charger for my phone, my phone, flashlight, spare lighter, and usually a SAK. I've got a couple of small capsules on my keychain, one has aspirin, the other an eyeglass repair kit, a Craftsman 4 way screwdriver, and a small Spyderco. In my wallet I've got a few band aids and a needle and thread.

Urban survival kit? Here in DC it's a fully charged phone, a good pen, extra glasses, a Victorinox Executive and a Huntsman, small flashlight, small compass, handkerchief/bandana, extra plused-up Metro card, extra day or two of Meds in a watertight vial, and something no one's mentioned, a DECOY WALLET (an old wallet with expired/canceled cards, old business cards, coupons, and a $20 bill just so they don't get too pissed.)

I've read about the decoy wallet, it sounds like a good idea in the city.

That's funny. When, the Fates being cruel, I lived in DC for a few years, I carried a decoy wallet as well. I completely forgot about that until you mentioned it. I stuffed it with random business cards, expired credit cards (name removed, mag strip defaced), green paper, and two (2) singles. Great tip!

I have turned my key chain into a mini 'survival' kit.

Two drivers, a pair of tweezers, a mini pry bar, whistle, and mini ferro rod. I like the Easy Pass fob because I can operate the gas pump without taking out my wallet. In addition to the key chain, I have the usual knife or SAK and a small LED light. Almost always a USB memory stick. Usually a few zip ties (wire ties). The mini pry bar and tweezers get used the most.

Been meaning to post in this thread for awhile now. I keep a "bolt bag" in my car and carry it into work. The idea is if I can't grab anything else I grab that and it has the bare minimum to hike home on foot if need be and enough to get me through at least one night if I have to stop. From work to my house is about 17 miles, so about 5 hours moving cautiously without stopping. I take this level of gear with me on every hike and am confident I can make the distance with the weight.

I keep a Leatherman or Gerbertool in the car.

In my everyday bag or on me on any given day, I have the following:

I think a flame source and light source are very important. I suppose depending on your needs a power block would be useful. I carry a flash drive on my key chain also, and have a small pry bar coming in hot from China.

Honestly the most important commodities for urban survival are a fair amount of cash and a means of defense. Everything else just makes life's uncertainties a bit less stressful. Cheers!
