After extensive testing of a kukri, hatchet, Tracker, and cleaver, ther girlfriend and I were shocked (I was very disappointed in the kuk) to discover that a light kitchen cleaver worked better for nearly all chopping and cutting chores in the bush. As well, if kept thin, a cleaver is a first class kitchen blade and the first knife we reach for.
This is about the same weight as our test cleaver, 12.7 oz, though twice as thick (test cleaver had weights added to get it to 3/4 pound range). S30V, RC 60, the bevels have 1000 grit finish. 12 inches long overall, 8mm thick carbon fiber slabs, and a new construction technique that allows perfect indexing of the slabs during re-assembly after cleaning or scratch removal without compromising strength (it is going out into the bush to build shelters and fires).
She has no idea this blade exists, so it's a perfect Christmas surprise! Her kitchen knives suck, and the knives she bought for wilderness survival suck, so I figured now is the time.
Comments and questions welcome!
