It's fun to make stuff for the family. I took some time to make a couple of kitchen knives for the wife and I as Christmas gifts to ourselves. And I had some fun. I just did a couple quick and dirty stock removal blades from .095 15n20 and found the craziest wood I could find. At least the cleaver has some wild stuff... A branch of diamond willow split with a table saw and a half tang peened through with bronze. The other is some big leaf maple burl edge pieces.

I 'stabilized' the edge character (and the bark!) with super glue.

Anyway... Thought I would share.

Does anybody else have fun when they make stuff for themselves??

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. I chopped up some peppers and onions with that cleaver tonight. Nothing like a vegetable cleaver for dicing.

Those flat-out kick butt. I can't wait to see some Food Channel goober have the sack to use a pair of knives like that. Great job.
