Cutting board is end grain bocote in a basket-weave pattern. This knife will slice grapes paper thin and is about .009" on the back side of the edge bevel. I have numbered it #2 because it is the second knife I started with actual knife steel that wasn't for practice. You might also say that it is #12 if you count all the practice knives and KSO. As much as I hate woodworking, the cutting board came out beautiful and the picture just doesn't do it justice.

Wow, both are beautiful. What a wonderful idea to match the cutting board with the knifes handle.

Very nice looking set.
Great looking knife. I really like the cutting board the way you oriented the grain patterns. The matching knife handle was a big plus as well. The knife looks real good. The cutting board looks real good. But together......they look great. I am sure whoever this is for will be really happy.

What? We're supposed to make these for other people? I knew I was forgetting some part of the process. hehehe Actually, it's my entry for the KITH. I love bocote. It is nice and heavy, doesn't need stabilized, and takes a great mineral oil finish for the cutting board. Yes, the board is rectangular, it's just the distortion from the camera.

I want to mention that I didn't work the blade to 220 then put it in a tumbler for my satin finish. I took the blade all the way to x15 on the grinder then sanded on a pad sander to 600 grit. It was an almost mirror finish then I blasted it to give a near perfect satin finish. According to the experts I asked, a satin finish is preferred. A mirror finish sticks to food more, making fine slicing more difficult.

I want to say that I'm overjoyed that you like the knife and board. A VERY knowledgeable BF member had me so discouraged that I almost quit making in October. Your reception to this knife validates my decision to keep making.

Well if you were tempted to give up, I'm certainly glad you didn't! That's one very nice set there. The finish look good in the picture and I'm sure I'll be very happy with it if you're my KITH draw.

My favorite kitchen knife and you have done a fine job on this one. Love the cutting board also.

Zaph, whatever you do, DO NOT quit making knives. That is a nice knife by anyones standards and I don't EVER remember seeing a nicer cutting board. I have several favorites in this KITH and this is one of them. I would be extremely pleased if I recieved it.

Sorry, I moved the pic on my web page. It's been updated and should show again. Yes, I'm in the middle making another one, just slightly smaller.
