Kitchen - travelling knife

I made new knife onto order . He had shape to be similar to santoku only from more slender blade .
Steel this D2 ( 61Hrc ) about thicknesses 3,5 mm , length of blade of 5 inches. Knife will be he worked in kitchen and on trips for city .

Neat idea on the glow in the dark inserts. That has some applications in a lot of areas.
 
Stupid Question.....Why the inserts? Do the serve a purpose other than looking really cool?
