Made this kitchen utility knife for an old friend and fellow knife knut. He wanted something along the lines of a chef's knife, but not as tall. I've only made two of these guys, the previous one in Cru Forge V. This one is in 52100, and heat treated, tempered, and sharpened for a long lasting cutting edge. Approximately 63HRC, and edge angle of 26° inclusive! 1200 mesh DiaSharp, then stropped on 1 micron Suehiro water stone. "Refined aggressiveness". Handle is, of course, Claro Walnut, with black G10 liners and black Micarta pins. Balance point is at the front of the handle, right at the tip of the forward sweep. "S Davenport" makers mark on the left side, "52100" on the right side to indicate steel type.

OAL: 12.5"
Blade: 7.5"
Handle: 5" Claro Walnut (1200 grit w/Watco Danish and TruOil, pores filled)
Width at heel: 1 11/16"
Thickness: 0.102"
Blade polish: 800 grit satin/Mother's mag (oil beads up!)

Fun project for me! And it's going to a heck of a guy, too! I hope you like it.......

Stuart,

That looks great! I am looking forward to getting this one and doing my best to wear it out. I've got a safe full of custom knives and it finally dawned on me that a custom kitchen knife would get a lot more use and give me more opportunities to enjoy it. Thank you for the prompt turn around time. You finished this one fast enough that I"m not even tempted to try and wait until Christmas to "give" it to my wife.

thanks again

Another knockout Stuart! I personally don't like handles that go that far forward, but it seems to be really working for you. Great job!
