after reading a post here suggesting that a butterknife could be modified to work well as a thrower, i decided to give it a shot.

i know nothing about throwing techiniques, weighting, how many turns, or anything at all, but figured i'd grind the knife in a way that seemed as if it might work.

if you look closely you can see "bisho..." on the handle...
my father has the habbit of sticking spare silverware in his pocket in case he drops his primary utensile on the ground. apparently he forgot to remove this set...

i used a piece of cardboard to practice a little throwing, i mainly just aimed at the board and threw.
to throw, i trued to use my whole arm, and keep my wrist straight. i discovered that following through is very important.
it has cutting edges on both sides, to ensure a better chance of penetration, and hopefully when i get good enough, i will be able to throw with either the durable end or the thin one.

does anyone have any moovies or links that would explain the throwing process?
despite several years on a bowling league, i still suck...does that mean i won't be able to throw a knife?

so do you throw your butter knife so the handle goes in the target? it looks like you sharpened the handle to a tip.

it's sharpened on both sides.

usually, it try to make the "blade" part sink into the target, since it's sharper, but i also ground the handle to a point, so i have a better chance of actually sinking it in, and when i get good enough, hopefully i'll be able to throw it either way, using the sharper side for weaker stuff and the sturdier side for harder stuff.

Ive had the handle end stick in my archery target i use to throw into, and its un sharpened. So you can guess theres some force behind the throw.
