I have a carbon fiber Kiwi I have been using for edc for three months. It has developed side to side blade play. In the unlocked position i can make the blade hit both liners,it is a little better in the locked position. What could cause this and do you think it could be repaired? I dont see any way to access the pivot . Thanks Dave spada8@comcast.net

Blade play when closed is pretty much the norm. Blade play when locked is not. One possible cause may be excessive testing for blade play.

I have 3 kiwis and all have blade play in the closed position. I notice this with lock backs in particular. There is no play when all are in locking position. Nothing to worry about.

That is funny.

Spada, I'm pretty anal about bladeplay too. I have 4 lockbacks 2 spydies, a buck and an old USA made Schrade and they all have bladeplay. To me it seems guys like us just need to get over it or not buy lockbacks.

BTW, I think that bladeplay in the closed position is normal and doesn't bother me in the least.

Yep, wrote that a bit fast and it does need clarification. :o It's kind of like wrecking locks by excessive spine whack testing. On a pinned construction knife like the Kiwi, wiggling the blade from side to side over enthusiastically while the knife is open to "test" for blade play can create play where none existed by spreading the handles. People have written about doing that, intentionally, to "loosen up" some of the all stainless Spydercos, the Police in particular.
