Kiwi III

I prefer the older, locking, Kiwis myself, but if you're in the market for a slip-joint, the Kiwi III is an excellent value for the money. It uses decent, if not exceptional, steel which takes a good edge, and the fit and finish are very good. Downside of the all stainless version is that the combination of smooth steel handles and a strong back spring make it difficult, and somewhat dangerous, to open one handed. But the same was true, to a lesser extent of the all stainless locking version. If that's important to you, the stag version is much easier to get a good grip on, and thus safer to open one handed. Another option would be one of the hand engraved all stainless ones that New Graham Knives has. In addition to making the knife look very classy, the engraving provides a good secure grip. Some folks also attach a fob, and use it for grip. Of course two handed opening is always an option, I do that a lot with my locking Kiwis.

If I remember correctly they are long discontinued. Best chance is to find it on that one auction site we all hate. Or the exchange here.

I have an unlocking version of the Kiwi. It actually serves as a very safe slip joint as the large choil helps prevent the blade from closing on your fingers. I really appreciate the very fine tip that it has - nice for detail work.

I like mine for what it is, however have one quarrel with it. It's difficult for me to open with one hand. Aside from that nuisance it sports great F&F and is very well made given the price, also the 8CR13MOV is no slouch either.

Track down an older Kiwi if you can. The difference is AMAZING! The Kiwi 3 is still a nice knife with amazing ergos, but IMHO it's but a shadow of what the older back lock versions were. I just recently picked up the version with the CF inserts and was blown away by how much easier it was to open and close one handed. Smooth as silk.

I'd like one, however I'm kinda burned out on spending money right now. I'd definitely try one for the right price, though. Seems like a very pocket friendly/ergonomic pattern given its size.
