Hi Guys
Well after some waiting, a misplaced parcel and a little more waiting my WW2 and JKM1 arrived.I must say the quality and finish of both are excellent.Haven't been able to test either yet, but will subject them to hardness testing at local university School of Egineering. Thanks to those at HI who sorted out the order. Now waiting on UBBB BAS. Ain't life grand
Phil

Two great blades. My WW2 is going with me in the car tomorrow in case I need to clear any fallen trees on my way to work. Hurricane Isabel, and all...
Please share the results of your testing!

With a whole tree down you may be in trouble if it is big. Limbs of a pretty good size should give you no problem with the WWII. I like mine very much too.:) :)

Hi Guys
could someone tell me how hard the chakma should be? Harder than the blade of the kukri?
Phil

Ideally, yes. Unfortunately that isn't usually the case, I think that the chakmas are usually about the same hardness as the blades or a little softer. They still do the job, but most of mine won't work for heavy damage. Sylvrfalcn (Sarge) has made some good ones out of old files, I've thought of trying this myself.

Hi Guys
I did some hardness testing of my JKM-1 and the WW2 at the University Schoool of Engineering. Couldn't obtain higher than about 20Rc on the chakma. Will pass on more details later. Another question, the FAQ page intimates that kukri edge hardness is about 60Rc, what about the spine of the blade?
Thanks
Phil

P.S. I dont want to turn this into any kind of argument, just interested.

I should hpe that it is a good deal softer, somewhere in the 30-40 range. Much harder, and it would not do a very good job of absorbing impact.

I have found my cardas and chakmas that are thicker seem to be relatively soft. since I didn't buy the khuk for the extra tools (already have good hones and steels & pocketknives) it hasn't worried me much. The chakmak that I got with my 21" Chit was thinner and harder than any of my other chaks. I use it for all of my khuks now, but I may follow Sarge's lead and make one out of an old file.
