Kizer cutlery info or thoughts

Sorry, i hit post too early. Anyway does anybody know anything about them or even own one of their knives? I seen thum on a popular knife wedsite and though I would ask. Any comments or thoughts would be welcomed.

Chinese company that has considerable controversy surrounding it. There was a recent blow up over allegations that they had stolen designs, although the accuser's story was a bit odd.

I noticed that they looked alot like Hinderers. Also kinda pricey for Chinese knives imo.

Not to mention that chinese VG-10 has a fairly poor reputation. I remember a Chinese member of this site saying flat out that Chinese manufacturers don't have the facilities to properly heat treat VG-10.

You know, there seems to be a trend that these threads for Kizer, user is newer, under 100 posts, they keep creaping up. Feeling a bit spammed already, but that may be due to past infractions.

Got a couple. One is an outright copy of Tim Britons Tango. Haven't identified the second yet. Both are very well made. The anodizing on the ti handles is a bit muddy and washed out but acceptable. This stuff is well worth the money in terms of build quality fit and finish etc. There is a nagging feeling of guilt though. I bought these two to see what the offshore market was capable of producing. Its unsettling. These are really good. What's going to happen when they start sending us Chinese cars? Don't laugh, they ARE. Used to be we'd send them a tree and they'd send back a chair. Our kids want to work in an office and click away at a keyboard for 50 grand a year. No trade jobs for them. Here in Canada we're short of electricians, construction tradespeople and those who enjoy traditional handtool occupations. For me, I'm done buying offshore. The products are good- but there's a hidden price you'll pay later. American, Canadian and non-Asian manufacturers will suffer if we buy offshore. PERIOD. My local landfill is full of crappy DVD players TVs and particle board furniture our Asian friends produced we couldn't resist buying based on price. I'm not doing it anymore. Sorry for the rant. Just try finding a North American made TV. Think about our future.

Every year the Asian quality gets better...and that landfill was already full of American made junk products prior to the Asian made junk.;)

Edit part...I should add....based on the price alone of these kizers.....I see no advantage over the usual American made brands. I'm gonna pass on these and stick to the usual suspects. Just my take on them.

Controversy aside, I purchased one of the blue anodized ones that is similar to the Tango but different handle and the fit and finish is great. This one has S35VN blade and I haven't had any problems with edge retention. I don't like the tip down only RT hand carry. I still cringe a little when I see the china on the blade but for the money the quality seems to be there.

So, you got the Kizer Cutlery Ki401X Folding Knife 3.5" S35VN Stonewash Blade, Titanium Handles? How's the flipper action?

They are Chinese pieces of crap who steal their designs from hard working Americans like my good buddy Tim Britton. Compare their flipper to Tim Britton's Tango. If you wanna support a foreign company that steals American designs buy away. Just my opinion.

At first glance it seems like that, but after reading Tim's responses in another thread and not addressing Kizer's claims I'm not so sure. Not to mention Tim's deceitful past practices of selling Aus-8 assembled knife kits as full hand crafted customs claiming to use BG-42.

[/IMG] i went to a knife show and saw a knife that i loved. the guy said it had tianium scales and the blade was s35vn so for $180 i said screw it its a good deal. when i got home i did some research and found out that kizer was a company that ripped off tim brittons tango. i used the knife for about a month showed friends but for som reason it was bothering me. it was like wearng a fake rolex lol so i sent tim an email and told him the story, he said he ws going to a knife show and he had two he was bringing and if i wanted i could buy one! i got the knife in and i love it. the kizer is a good knife but when your friends ask about it its a fake..if your ok with that then buy but if your like me and like having the real thing i would save up a little more and buy the real one.

There was a thread about this a while back, and it was never really concluded. The last post before the thread got locked seemed to suggest that Kizer had designed the knife, and Tim Britton had bought the design from them. Kizer did apparently continue producing and selling the knife before the rights were officially transferred to Mr. Britton. Post #48 in the aforementioned thread provides more detail (from Kaizer's standpoint). The thread got locked before Mr. Britton could respond.

Like many (most?) others, I had jumped the gun and concluded that the Chinese company must have stolen the design, but the truth might be a bit more complicated than that.
