A friend had his Intrepid routed to me so I could check the edge before he got it, such great lines on this and cuts so well too...some may point out it's big, it's heavy...but I also carry along a nice small Case peanut for the more mundane tasks and find this knife is a pretty good companion to that.

This particular one has a lighter feeling detent than the Gemini has, but it doesn't shake open, so that's good. Due to the lighter detent feel, it doesn't have that SNAP kind of opening, but it will open smoothly on those ceramic bearings.

The contour of the handles is very well done, while you can feel the pocket clip, the rest doesn't come across with any hot spots for me.

The clip is pretty strong, and with the sharp edges of the cutout for the lock bar, your pants pocket material seems trapped into that opening, a lanyard is almost a must in order to get it to come out of the pocket. Silver lining, it won't fall out of your pocket by accident! I like this one so much that I sold off my Kizer Gemini to fund one of these for myself, it's enroute as I type...the wait is always a killer... When it arrives I MAY try to put some softer corners on that lockbar cut out to see if that helps the pocket material not be so strongly trapped, of course it will not have the nice finish on the Ti there, but I'll try to keep it to a very small rounding of the edge.

The handling of this knife, it's hefty and solid feeling and inspires confidence in use, this one arrived quite keen, popping paracord easily and cutting many different materials also equally as well, so I did not have to sharpen it before I sent it off to my friend. While most knives I get need to be sharpened, this one was pretty good, I hate to shorten any blades life with unneeded sharpening.

Here you can see some of the texture in the Ti when they machined it, gives it a very light texture.

My only nit pick with this is the cut out for the lock bar, the edges are too crisp and if you don't have a lanyard to help draw the knife out of the pocket, the pocket clip does a great job of keeping your pants pocket stuck into that cutout.

Again Ray, nice design there, love that there isn't anything to get hooked on material when you go to cut, and with no thumbstuds it makes it easier to sharpen too.

And Kizer, nicely done on this one folks.

Thank for the pics Gary. I like that. Looks nicely done, and I know some friends who would also love the absence of the sharpening choil to hang on. I'll have to check out the price point.

Thanks, right now they're a bit pricey but I imagine that it will come down a little pretty soon.

That is some very nice subtle texturing, and I especially approve of Kizer indicating the designer

I agree, it's good they placed his name on there, similar to where he normally marks his knives.

Mine arrived today! whew, hate that wait :) while my friends knife arrived a bit keener and I think the blade was ground down slightly thinner, as this one measures about .030" at the top of the bevel, it still cuts well, but would have been better a little thinner. Also his had the pocket clip that wouldn't let go, while mine is the opposite, I almost think this clip is made of thinner material but that couldn't be, so I think his was bent so it was a bit tighter. Which is good news for me and him, I won't need to remove any metal off the lockbar cutout. But I think I will attempt to bend this one so it's a little tighter, as it doesn't grip much at all.

The detent on this one is slightly better, it flips open a little easier due to a stronger detent helping to preload the blade, not a lot, just a little and it does open very smoothly and locks up solid.

The colour on the hardware is a bit better on this one, his had some rub marks on the surface but overall still was nice.

G2...off to make a lanyard now :)

I had to bend the clip on my old BM Emerson Design CQC-7. It was a bit loose to start with and I just took it off and bent it a bit and never had another issue with it.

Thanks, that's about what I did, I use the knife to hold the clip, basically remove it, turn it so the clip sticks out past the knife handle and put the screws back in so that's held in place, and CAREFULLY bend the clip down...just a bit :)

Received my new Intrepid yesterday. Same great fit and finish as my Gemini.

Only real complaint is the relatively weak detent. It still flips open well but I can also open it by inertia alone. The heavy blade helps there.

Nice blade shape, grind and very sharp. Solid centering, no blade play and nice lockup.

At 5.67 ounces it's kind of on the heavy side for a 3.6" blade.

The nice packaging of the Gemini is missing!

I've not seen a reply yet from Kizer about the lack of or change of packaging, maybe the Gemini was special? In any case once out of the box, it is put away and you just have the knife out anyways.

My friends knife I think could be opened by inertia, possibly, mine has a slightly stronger detent, maybe it is how much of the ceramic ball is exposed in the steel lockbar determines how deep or set into the hole of the blade, but also as you pointed out, heavier blade makes it easier to throw it open without flipping.

Gentlemen, how does it carry in the pocket.Any fear of the knife opening up in the pocket due to the somewhat weak detent.Appreciate any feedback on this issue.

That's what I'm afraid of specially if you take sudden steps, etc. Haven't had a chance to carry it. Perhaps Friday.

As I say, mine has a slightly stronger detent than Raj's, but if carried in the right front pocket with the blade against the side of the pocket, I don't think it would be too quick to open. If it had a thumb stud to catch on material, I'd be more concerned with that, but as a flipper it's been carrying fine.

Thanks and yep, made that last photo look like it was just under the surface of the water ;)

I tried to take some images of the ceramic bead that does the detent, here it shows how much of the bead is above the steel plate, if your bead is lower, it wouldn't go as far into the hole of the blade

harder to get a shot of how deep it goes in, but here you can see the lockbar against the side of the blade, if the hole isn't lined up properly or is too small, the bead won't go in as far or let the lock bar get this close to the blade

I was surprised to see the bead wasn't in the steel insert but was pressed into the titanium.

Interesting observations on the Intrepid. I'm still ogling my Gemini. I removed the pocket clip the minute I received it and without it, the contoured handles just make the knife melt in my hand. The detent is perfect. I really love this knife.

I'm not sure what to say about the difference in packaging except to rack it up to growing pains. Could just be that Kizer wanted to get the Intrepid out before the packaging was ready. In any event, beautiful knife and GREAT pictures. :)

Thanks, while I had the clip off mine to add some bend to it, the folder felt very comfy in hand too.

and thanks I'm glad someone appreciates those photos ;) the knife design and build lent itself nicely to the lighting setup, getting a good shot of the ceramic bead was a bit of a trick though, those ceramic beads are pretty hard stuff too !

So what is the difference in the packaging? Did the Gemini come with the zip case? I have seen that some of the Kizer's come with a nice box that would look great on a shelf. That's what I was hoping for, for the intrepid...

No zipper case just a nicer box plus a micro fiber cloth too
