Hey all,

I picked up a Kizer Ki303 from bladehq last week, it showed up today and has these 6 odd almost symmetrical "grind" marks running vertically along the blade. I contacted bladehq, and they were not sure if these marks are supposed to be there, what we discovered though is that actual picture of the knife on bladehq shows these exact marks. What is weird, is there are a few videos on YouTube of the knife and none of the videos showed the marks on the blade. I sent an e-mail to Kizer, but haven't heard back yet, I was wondering if anyone else had picked up one of these knives and have the same marks on the blade?

Here's the link to the to bladehq:

Thanks!

I looked at them. Right hand only tip down clip kept me from buying one. I kind of like the marks... Do they look like milling/grinding marks or is it simply discolored?

To me they look like they're discolored, but the CS rep at bladehq referred to them as grind marks. The more I look at them, it seems like they should be there because of how evenly spaced and straight they are, oddly symmetrical. Other than those marks, the knife is great. One of the smoothest opening knives I have in my collection.

Odd as this may seem, those marks look to me like they're decorative...way too deliberate in pattern to be a coincidence.

I have a couple Kizers (along with my ZT's, Benchmades, and my new Sebenzas and Striders) and I am THOROUGHLY impressed with the ones I have. Smooth actions, perfect fit/finish, perfect centering, lock up consistently at 50% no matter how hard they're flicked open, great blades (S35VN and awesome grinds on both), etc. Obviously I can't say enough good things about them. If they had a US based warranty center and lifetime warranty/sharpening, the big name US manufacturers would have reason to be very afraid.

Well I heard back from Kizer and they're response to my e-mail unfortunately didn't answer whether the marks are intentional or not. They're response was essentially if I don't like it, return it to the vendor. So I'm still not sure if the marks are supposed to be there or not, oh well I've already decided to keep the knife.

There is a US based warranty center but it's for warranty replacement only.

Good info to know...they just need to add lifetime warranty and sharpening service, and they'll be one of the best buys in the business. I have some great knives from all the big names, and I really love my Kizers...bought another over the weekend.

Wouldn't bug me at all. It's just some kind of finishing marks. I think it looks kinda cool, and definitely unique.

I wouldn't call those grind marks. A grind mark is going to look and feel like a scratch or row of scratches, not a discolored area.

Depends on the process. If they were grinding with coolant, then what he's seeing could easily be a failure in the coolant supply leading to a grinding overheat of the metal.

Of course, I could easily be wrong.

Hmm Difficult to say with that poor pic but I can come with a theory.

It could be caused by something like a mount/ grip /pliers with teeth, (give it a name) that were the blade holding during a particular process (like heating). And around these teeth discoloration was formed. That would explain the symmetry.
