Kizer Critical mini review:
Received this knife via the passaround, and have been putting her through the paces for the last week or so. Here are some thoughts:

First of all, this knife is a BEAST. Weighing in at over 6 oz. and w/ an overall length of 8.64", this knife is much bigger and heftier than I tend to edc. The blade thickness is .16", a lot thicker than I tend to prefer for edc as well. This heft and size gives the Critical a very solid feel in hand, but does take up a lot of pocket real estate when carrying, and definitely qualifies as a 'pocket brick'. The action is superb, with a great detent strength. Flips open snappily every time with both push button and lightswitch approaches. The heavy blade drops shut with a minimal shake, and could probably be broken in to be a very smooth free dropper.

As you could guess with a .16" blade stock, the Critical is not the best slicer. However, it performed better than I thought in this area, as the saber grind is fairly tall, especially towards the tip (the secondary bevel widens from pivot to tip). Still wedged apart apples when attempting to cut em, but with less brutality than I had predicted with such a thick blade stock. This blade should handle heavy duty cutting tasks well, and the tip is pretty robust while still having good piercing capability. The wharncliffe blade has a straight cutting edge with a slightly upwards angle, which gives a ton of cutting power. I would imagine this knife would be pretty effective for SD because of this blade shape, but that's strictly conjecture and way outside of the use I put my knives through.

The fit and finish is really nice on the Critical. Tolerances are tight, and I can't detect blade play in any direction. Centering is spot on. I really like the anodized blue accents on the pivot ring, backspacer, and clip - they really add a touch of elegance.

Ergonomically I like the Critical, and generally feel that it works well in a variety of grips. My one complaint ergo-wise is the backspacer lanyard hole protrusion - it leaves a pointy, almost 90 degree 'spike' in the corner of the handle butt which can dig into your palm.

In summary, I think the Critical is an extremely well made knife that will serve well as a heavy use folder. Not ideal for my edc needs because of its heft and size, but ymmv.
