Kizer Thumbstud

I recently purchased my first Kizer, the 412A1, and it's a fantastic knife. I carried it all day yesterday and really enjoyed except for one issue: the lock side thumb stud. The studs on this knife are nice and big, and give you plenty of purchase. But they're almost too long. On the presentation side this is a non issue, since the size assists in the opening. But the the lock side stud catches on the edge of my pocket when I'm clipping it in, and starts to pop the blade open. I learned this the hard way when I noticed the tip of the blade sticking out through my pants. It sliced them like nothing. So all that to say, it seems like the only fix would be to shorten the thumb syud, presumably by grinding it down. It makes me a little nervous about being able to resell it if I ever wanted to, but it's that or cutting open the fronts of all my pants. Any ideas on alternative methods or other thoughts?

If you carry and use it, it will not be NIB anyway. If you do well shortening it and explain it, the buyer might be grateful to the effort of making it more usable and safer.

I have a problem with kizer's (and a couple other companies) thumb studs.

When I reprofile anywhere between 25-30 inclusive the studs get in the way:thumbdn:

Yeah that's true Chris, it's just another step away from factory condition. But it least I won't stab my pants haha.

Blues Bender, what do you do when you have a thumbstud that gets in the way?

I usually just sharpen on the side of my sharpening medium rather than using the entire surface. For instance, if I'm using my paper wheels, I'll draw the blade across at an angle rather than straight across.

I like low angles and not so good at sharpening, so I remove the thumbstuds. It's one of the reason I love Spydies.

Totally agree!!!

I love to get my spydies stupid sharp, I reprofiled my manix2 to about 20-25 inclusive and its the sharpest thing I've ever seen. That blade geometry is just awesome.
