Is anybody familiar with Klein tool knives? I have one marked 44034,that really looks like a classy and wicked sharp knife. It says it's made in Japan, anybody got any idea on the steel used?

I've had a Klein 44034 for about 20 years. It also is made in Japan. It is a nice lockback. The lockup is absolutely rock solid. Excellent fit and finish. Great blade shape with a nice flat grind. I do not know the steel. Takes a very keen edge. Holds it on a par with 440A or Buck 420HC. If I had to guess I'd say it's AUS6. I carried mine daily for a couple of years. Makes a great EDC, though there is no clip.

Got a pic? Probably something in the Aus-6 or Aus-8 range. A lot of their sub-contracted Japanese lines matched up with the mid-level Moki knives. :).

Uh, ok, I was thinking of a couple knives Klein sold early 90's:). Those linked are similar to the very late 70's - early 80's early Kershaws in shape and finish.

Actually...it's probably just 44043 steel. If I'm not misstaken Böker uses that in some of their folders. It's close to Aus8 if I remember right.

I recently saw a Klein 110 look alike used by a commerical roofer that was doing work for my company and it was nice, but he paid $40 for it when you could get a real Buck 110 for $29 at Walmart.....

Their website only states "stainless steel" for the 44034. Perhaps you could contact them and try to find out.

I have the 44001. It seems fairly decent.

Pocket clip, midlock with AUS-8 at 58-59 Rc.
